so this is paulina czyżewski... she's a middle aged lady who basically manhandled her way into fighting for poland (well, the "kingdom of poland") in wwi as well as the polish-ukranian war. ruthless leader and refuses to slow down. abrasive and raspy. HUGE nationalist, which is what led her to fight so often, believing these wars could give poland independence or, well, make poland as we know it.

this was super fun to do because i ended up on polish fashion history websites and falling down a rabbit hole on the polish-ukranian war, all just to bastard-ize history and make this kick-butt lady :D i'm "technically" polish, though american polish so the last person to speak fluent polish in my family is three generations ago. we still make pierogi and my grandmother has conversational polish, but it's really gotten to the point that it's lost. wish i could have gotten known my great-grandmother, as she passed away when i was five, so i could learn more about polish heritage and culture from her.
