Goennec Pen #:
1
Name:
Kasa
Means "dressed in furs" in Native American. How would you use him/her:
Kasa would be a part of one of my horse herds, specifically the Delaware Herd. Though, eventually she would join my other Goennecs and become a part of the RP herd. I would RP her, but most likely later once she's at least had a developed history with the Delaware Herd. I would get art of her when I can and write about her interactions with her fellow herd members. She would get a page on my character site [which is under construction] and I think Kasa would make a lovely addition to my family of Goennecs.

PersonalityKasa is a very gullible Goennec. She'll just about believe anything she is told and is totally trusting to anyone. Unless she finds out she had been lied to, then it would be extremely hard to earn back her trust. She loves to explore places outside of the herd's territory, but she is usually scolded by the lead as he considers her his adopted daughter. He is overly protective of her and she doesn't really like it. She wants to have more freedom, but Avair usually won't allow it. She loves to listen to the myths and legends told by the herd elders as they captivate and interest her. Whenever Kasa goes out exploring she will often try to search for the legendary beasts of the myths. Since she has only been around horses all her life, she would have a hard time interacting and socializing with other Goennecs. Kasa actually considers herself a horse, despite her obvious differences.
Kasa prefers to be alone, but is too fearful of what might happen if she decides to become a loner. The other members of the herd had told horrible stories about the fierce predators that prowled the area and those stories had struck her with fear. The only reason she goes exploring outside of herd territory is that she knows a fellow herd member would always be nearby. As she had found out on an accidental encounter, Avair sends out spies to make sure she doesn't get into any trouble. Kasa isn't terribly social and has very little friends in the herd. She sometimes plays with the newborn foals as she is small and gentle enough to not hurt them, but other than that she has no
real friends to speak of. She only eats vegetation since she has grown up with horses her whole life and they don't ever eat meat, thus she has never really thought about eating meat. Also, the herd thinks that anything that consumes flesh is a deadly predator and they would probably consider her a predator for that reason.
Her StoryThe huddled mass of dark fur was found curled up under an oak tree in the dead of night. A small figure of a newborn doe was curled up into a ball of warm fur, trying to grab any warmth possible. It was the middle of winter and there had been more snow than usual. The young Goennec's mother had abandoned her daughter as she was the smaller and sicklier of the twins the mother had given birth to. Her twin brother was the one that had been kept in the herd, while the Prime had ordered the black Goennec's mother to abandon the weaker sibling. The mother had obeyed orders and left her child out in the cold wilderness to die. The small creature was doing better than a Goennec with a normal mane would have though, as her longer mane had provided extra warmth. Still, the little one needed a place to call home and a loving mother to take care of her.
"What is it?" asked the lead stallion, Avair. He had a nasty tone if disgust in his voice. "Is it even alive?" Avair proceeded to prod the little creature with his front hoof, despite the horrified look on the lead mare's face. "Avair! You should know better than to just poke some helpless creature! I think we should take with us, on our way back into the herd's territory." she scolded, the disappointment evident in her voice. "Are you suggesting we take this weird little beast with us? It's not even a horse for all we know! I will not have it Kai." The lead was being stubborn, as he usually is. "But it's a dying newborn! We can't just leave it here, it might get attacked by a starving predator." Kai insisted. "And what will the others think of it? What if they shun it for being so different?" Avair asked, still not completely sure about the situation. "Then we will protect it and treat it as if it were our own. The herd members must take to it eventually." Kai was not about to give up on this little clump of shivering black fur.
While the two leads were bickering over what to do about the starving animal in front of them, the tiny thing began to move. It's deep violet eyes shone bright as it began to stand on its wobbly legs. It stared up at Kai, as if she were its mother. The small Goennec was hungry, searching for its mother's milk. It made its way over to Kai and it began to nurse as if it were completely normal. Kai seemed pleased while Avair had a look of shock on his face. "Fine we will keep it." He sighed and shook his head. "Good, then we shall name her Kasa for her extra fluffy fur." Kai said happily. When Kasa was done nursing the milk from her tender mother, she trotted up to Avair and nuzzled against his long legs. She was adorable he had to admit, but he still wasn't sure he liked this thing. It did have after all have sharp teeth as he had found out after she nipped at his tail.
[Kasa's PoV]
The tendrils of the warm fire danced and flickered, forming moving figures among the flames. I stared intently at those moving shapes, searching for the mighty Thunderbird to show itself. Cha'risa was telling a fantastical myth about the legendary Thunderbird while she was crafting the flames as a visual to the story. Father had told me the elders of our herd had mystical powers. The beautiful flames swirled and twisted into the crude form of a majestic bird, flapping its wings feverishly on top of a mountain. Lightning blot shaped flames shot in every possible direction when the great fowl blinked. The shooting fire reminded me of the shooting stars and comets dashing through the night sky. The crackle of the hearth began to get louder and louder as the Thunderbird flapped its wings even harder, it was the sound of thunder. Embers and dusty ashes were floating away in the cool night's breeze. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind came past and blew the fire out as Cha'risa had finished the legend. And everything went dark around me. Wouldn't it be amazing though, to see a real Thunderbird?
The morning was beautiful and the mountain air was crisp. I was on a search for the Thunderbird, of course. After searching every possible place I could think of in the herd lands, I started to stray away from the territory borders. I knew the Thunderbird would be living on one of these mountains, Cha'risa had told me so. The fresh scent of pine needles wafted through the air and I could hear the beautiful melody of cheerful little songbirds. Kai had always told me to appreciate and get the most out of nature. The clouds to my east were starting to look grey and threatening, perfect. Cha'risa had said that the Thunderbird always brings a storm along with it. Would this finally be my chance to discover this elusive creature? But I wasn't alone. Was that the sound of a snapped branch? Was I being followed? My pace quickened towards the grey storm clouds, cautious of whatever was following me.
I could hear the sound of
hoofbeats following me, so I know I wasn't accidentally mistaking my own footsteps as the pursuer. I only have paws. Did Avair come after me like he usually does when he fins out I'm off exploring? My father needs to learn to give me a little freedom once in a while. I am a fully capable adult after all. The thunderstorm was advancing towards me faster and faster. Finally I would get my chance. I could hear the sounds of the rushing winds and the pouring rain. And there was a thunderclap in the distance. It would still be hours until the storm would hit this area though. As I turned around to search for a place to wait for the storm, I saw a black and slender face hiding in the tall bushes. "Hey, you!" I yelled at whoever that was. "Why are you following me?" The silhouette of a tall and muscular horse emerged from its well hidden hiding spot and replied "The lead stallion, Avair sent me to watch after you and to make sure no harm is done to you." His voice was smooth as silk. "I can't believe he sent you after me! I do not under any circumstances need a baby sitter! I will have a talk with him when we get back. Come, let's get back to the herd lands." And I stormed off, not even caring if that horse was coming with me or not. I was too furious at Avair.
"Father!" I raised my voice at him while I was stomping up to him. "Why did you send a
spy after me. You know perfectly well that I am a fully grown adult and do not need babysitting." Avair looked angered as well, I knew he was about to get stubborn again. But Mother was with him, so maybe she could persuade him. "Kasa, you know I deeply care about you. I don't want you to get killed by some vicious mountain lion or something." He reasoned, but that was not good enough. "But I can protect myself just fine! I'm not that helpless babe you had found nearly five years ago anymore!" Kai was remaining silent, how disappointing. "You need to calm down my lovely daughter. I sent him after you because I love you." But his efforts were in no way relieving. "No, it's because you don't trust me. You like to protect me. But maybe you protect me
too much. I need more freedom." Finally Mother had heard enough and excused herself. She did not want any part of that discussion. So much for my idea of persuading dad. I just glared at him and marched off before he could reply; I too frustrated to listen to him anymore.
The only terrible and sad part about not having friends is that I have no one close enough to vent my feelings of frustration to. I was stuck with all my emotions bottled up and there was no way out. But there was no way I'm going to leave this herd, too many dangerous carnivores lurk the area. Just yesterday a newborn foal and its mother were killed while everyone else was sleeping. The only horses I ever interact with are the foals, but they are too young to understand what I'm saying anyways. And there was no way I could vent to either of my parents, they just don't understand me. Nobody understands me. I'm the odd one of this herd, they don't even think I'm a horse. Of course I am a horse though, right? And Kai and Avair are my real parents, no matter what they keep telling me. I'm starting to have doubts about what is true and what is a lie. Could it really be that I was abandoned by some mare unable to take care of a child? Of course not, that couldn't be it. I needed something to do so I could keep my mind off this upsetting subject. I know, exploring always calms my nerves. I just hope Avair doesn't find out that I'll be off exploring again.
