Goennec Pen #:
4
Name:
Stargazer and Milky Way
How would you use him/her: (them!)
For the role play of course! And ya know, Threonine's girls. :mrgreen: They certainly wouldn't be a herd on their own, all belonging to the role play herd (if it has a name?). But as best friends, they'd be an inseperable group.

Define your Goennec:
(blue represents Stargazer and black represents Milky Way)

Birth is indeed a miraculous thing. The birth of a star is brought about by the gathering of billions of dust particles, rubbing together and condensing for years and years. Born by friction, there's always friction of some sort. It can be different, defined in new ways that nave nothing to do with atoms moving against eachother, creating heat. By earth standards this friction can be emotional, by humans, animals, or any other organism with high enough intellegence to disagree or simply want the same female (or male). So does this mean that friction is bad? But how can something that brings about new life, if that be of a star or living creature, be bad? Everything has a good and a bad side, yin and yang as some would say. But yin and yang must coexist, and in this great, vast void we have the birth of stars. Erupting into life giving flames, warm and beautiful, an icon of love (starstruck). But even stars must die, in the cycle of being born, giving birth, and dieing, stars have switched the last two. As they die they give birth to something else. Only massive stars may do this, but when they die they sometimes implode, and with the death of something warm, bright and beautiful comes the birth of something cold, dark and terrifying. This new matter acts like a vaccum in space, sucking up anything within it's gravitational pull, tearing atoms apart in such a way as terrifies living organisms. We have come to call it simply, a black hole.

So is the birth of twin Goennecs, cellestial in make rather than form not purely ironic? That one should have a mane as grey and radiant as hot dust, while the other a mane as inky as a black hole? That they were even born in a place void of life? Perhaps it would have, had one detail we associate with stars and black holes not been switched. One very important detail.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It has always been my job to watch the stars. To map them out silently and control their positions. A small celestial creature with control over large celestial bodies. I will not lie, this job is difficult, it takes hours and hours of simply staring up at the sky. Sometimes I do tend to, as I believe is a fault of mine, think of deeper things. My sister somehow managed to get off easy. Never have I envied her, I dispise the creature, but I would do anything to get off as easily. What is mapping stars compaired to exploring them? Of course, most of her time is spent next to me, she seems to feel obligated to keep me company. Often I am calm, but by the time she leaves to explore some more, I feel ready to explode, and my wrath is unleashed. Yes, I am known to destroy stars, entire galaxies. Yet somehow my sister always escapes, she doesn't even seem to know, or if she does, shows no sign of it. I turn towards her now, satisfied that I've ignored her for long enough, "Our existance is irrational, as is your behavior. What have you come to tell me?"
"Sister, do not sound so grave!" Came my laughing responce. Stargazer seemed startled, this made my mouth turn up in a grin. I wonder if she did not understand how my voice was so deep, though I was always so cheery. The magnificent things I've seen... How could that not make me smile? Not that it matters, some of the most beautiful places I've visited have been destroyed, I still don't understand how. It's as if they are crushed inward by some invisable force, like a vaccum in the core. Stargazer could never know how much this saddens me, I am thought of like a black hole, a dark mass in space. It's occured to me before that I could have caused the distruction of the places I loved, even if I never got to know any of the creatures that lived there. Only studied them silently, remembered in my mind all the details of their designs. "Listen to what I have to say Stargazer. I want to show you something, I've found a planet that's got something none of the others I've seen have. Organisms survive there of all shapes and sizes, and scattered out are ones that resemble us, as if they were created in our image. This place is special, if you'll allow it, I wish to take you there to see it."
I listened to what Milky Way had to say in silence, only tilting my head to the side a little to show that I was listening. How amusing, creatures created in our image. I was about to ask what they were called, but my eyes lit up, remembering that in my last test to see how far my powers could reach, I had realized that I could search my sister's mind with ease. I could pull it and twist it if I wanted, turn her to my will, fight her and force her to lay down while my teeth bit into her throat, tearing her to pieces... If that was even possible. Anyhow, I reached into her mind, feeling her stiffen when she realized what I was doing. I plucked the name slowly, as if pulling a string of thread from a shirt. She shrieked, a short lived cry and then I heard pounding. I pulled back quickly, gasping for air when I realized her hooves were planted firmly on my neck, pressing down as she snarled at me, "You monster." I snickered, "You're causing me physical pain, that's not supposed to happen." I shoved her off and sat up, the place where her split hooves had pinched my neck oozed a sort of black liquid. "Come, show me these 'Goennecs', I'm curious to see how they are. Perhaps we could leave our posts for a while to live amongst them, and be... How you say... 'Very Normal'."
I sat back, not quite in shock as I watched the liquid ooze from her neck. I'd done that, I'd hurt my sister... But she didn't seem to hardly care, her light voice sounded somehow evil in a way. I shifted my feet and hooves, "Very well, I will show you." Would she hurt them? I doubted it, we both knew well enough what 'very normal' meant. No more controlling, mapping, and less studying. Although, I would of course be studying their behavior a bit, why not? I looked up at the sky, we both did at the same time. A cloud of electrically charged dust particles was moving along slowly, shooting out spectacularly colored zaps of lighting. "Lets hurry." I muttered, my form dissolving into nothing. Solid to gas, or not even that. We arrived on this planet as any would arrive from a foreign place. Without warning, and with a bang. When we got close enough to the ground our forms took shape again, descending from the sky towards the top of a mountain. Mountains were always good places to take up form, they were up high enough that it was unlikely for anything to spot us, and we would have plenty of time to gather ourselves. But this time as I took up lightly, my feet easily holding onto the rocks, Stargazer, however, was not used to this sort of thing. Rather than landing easily on all fours she landed on her front feet and tumbled forward, rolling down amongst the rocks towards a ledge. I leaped forward to catch her, but felt myself pushed aside by something else. "Wha?" I stumbled back, watching in dismay as a Goennec pushed my sister away from the ledge, and in turn fell off itself. Not a word did it utter as it went off, falling down, surely to it's death.
Stargazer did not seem to realize that anything significant had happened. She stood up, now oozing from her leg as well, and looked around curiously. I moved down to the ledge, loosening stones as I went, and peered down. I expected to see it's mangled body laying twisted and torn amongst the brush or whatever might happen to be down there. But as my eyes adjusted to the lighting down there my breath came in a black puff like a sigh, "It's alive." I almost laughed, the Goennec, blue, white and almost black, had landed with his horns down, catching him so that his back legs were slightly in the air, one of the most aquard poistions imaginable. He seemed to tilt slowly to the side, and fell over, freeing his horns and shaking himself off nearly a hundered feet down. A small grey creature rushed out towards him, it looked almost like a very large rat, only furrier and with a longer nose. The male kicked it with his hind foot and it tumbled backwords, two orange gem like protrusions on it's shoulder lighting up in warning. The Goennec turned back to look at it and it clambered up his leg to sit on one of his horns. I watched, amused, until they both looked up towards us. I wondered then if they'd seen us descend, my blood, or whatever was inside of me, ran cold. "Stargazer, they've seen us!" I whispered urgently.
"So?" I replied. Milky Way had brought me down here, to one of the places she had explored. I had always wanted to explore, to live amongst real animals, this may be my only chance. "We're not going anywhere. Let them come and perhaps they will lead us to more. Or at least, the male might." I was unsure of what the other creature was, although the word "opossum" seemed to pop into my mind. I shook it away, hardly caring. We both waited there, wondering what they would say. I got the impression, looking at my sister, that she had not truely studied much about these creatures, other than their looks. I could not help but be a little angered, without knowledge of their behavior, be it like or different from our own, how were we to pass as 'very normal'? But as we waited the form of the male slowly came up the side, the opossum thing clinging to on of his horns.
"We thought you were dead for sure!" I exclaimed, nodding to acknowledge the male, as I guessed might be the accustomary thing to do. I was right, he bowed back, I could see that under his fur he had more muscles than either I or my sister, it must be from living in this unforgiving land. But then, we lived in a place void of life... I tried not to think about it, for he began to speak. "I am fine, falling won't do me much harm." He replied, looking as if he were trying to hid the humiliation of falling upside down. "I see you are also fine." He observed, looking me up and down, then my sister. He paused, his ears flicking up in a startled way, "WHAT IS THAT!?" He exclaimed, staring at Stargazer with a horrified look. The rat creature on his head looked somehow pleased. Stargazer was oozing black liquid onto the ground, it seemed to eat at the rocks, and she hastily bent down and lapped it all up.
"It is nothing." I replied to the male, shooting Milky Way a look. "We have come in search of a..." I stumbled, what was a group of Goennecs to be called? "A herd." I tried not to show relief when his gaze remained steady, "A herd?" He replied, glancing back down the mountain. "There are none left." He said slowly, as if we were stupid. "Have you not heard the cries? The cries of the beasts that pick us off? We are prey for many animals, these make the game easy to loose." I frowned, caring little what was happening to these creatures. *If they were truely made in our image, than they should be at the top of the food chain, nothing should get in their way.* But I kept the thoughts to myself, "There must be others around here somewhere." I insisted. He thought for a moment, "Well yeah... I have been looking and seen a few. If they decide to make a heard, would you two ladies like to come with me?" I opened my mouth to say something mean when my sister interupted.
"Yes, we would love to!" I said quickly, "This is exactly the opportunity we've been hoping for." He paused, almost uncertainly, "I wondered, I mean, you fell from the-" The look my sister shot him caught the breath in his mouth, he almost looked scared. If he was he did a very good job of not reacting in fear. "We'd better hurry." He finished, I could almost hear his heart pounding and felt a little sorry. He was a rather attractive male, "Where are we going, exactly?" I asked, to which he responded, "Out of these mountains first of all, there's a storm coming, and a nasty one at that."
A storm, how perfect. We arrive at night and from the darkness comes a storm. *What fun we will have in this place.* I grinned, *And all we'll have to do is watch.*
Goennec Pen #: 3
Name: Erebos
How would you use him/her: I would use him in the roleplay and he would definitly be one of Monsoon's friend. I would draw him a lot too, since my love for drawing Goeys 8D I really feel attract to him, sunset has always been my favorite moment of the day.
Define your Goennec:
It was a warm summer evening. The sun was setting when the new mother gave birth to her first child. The small furry ball was huddling up against his mother's side. She gazed at him, thoughtful.
“What will the others think when they see him?” she pondered.
“Do not worry too much about it, darling. I’m sure everything is going to be fine.”
He rubbed his nose against hers and looked in her beautiful fiery eyes.
“I promise.”
She fell asleep, clinging to the hope that her mate had spoken the truth. Deep down though, she knew that nothing would ever be normal for her beloved child.
~Three months later~
Erebos was chasing a butterfly in the grassy clearing under the ever watching gaze of his mother. The bug was faster than him and was always escaping his paws by less than an inch. He was fascinated by the little flying creature; its colorful wings were so beautiful! They remembered him of his own fur. He tried once again to catch the butterfly but he started when someone addressed him.
“Hi Eri, how are you doing today? Still trying to catch stupid bugs?” a voice said behind him.
Erebos watched as the butterfly escaped his grasp and disappeared into the forest.
“Hey, I’m talking to you.” the voice said, annoyed.
The small Goennec turned round and gazed at the newcomers. The one who had spoken was Aran, a Goennec a month older than he was. He had declared himself the leader of the herd’s youth and he especially liked to tease Erebos. The young one tolerated it because it had never been further than a few jokes, but he tried to avoid him as much as he could. Furthermore, if he had decided to go against Aran, every other child would have turn on him because they were all scared by the older Goennec.
“Hey, Aran. You’ve come to play?”
“Play? I don’t play with everybody. You’ll have to do something for me first.”
“What do you want me to do?”
“I want you to cross the river and fetch me something that comes from the other side.”
“The river? But it’s forbidden until we are old enough. Mama told me it’s dangerous.”
“Mama said this, Mama said that. You don’t want to do it because you’re a coward. But I didn’t think otherwise of the son of a demon.”
Erebos didn’t quite grasp the meaning of those words at that moment, but he knew they weren’t nice words by the reaction of Mirna, a female Goennec of his age.
“That’s no things to say, Aran!” she said with a scowl. “You should excuse yourself!”
“But it’s true! The parents are whispering about this. He’s not normal!”
Before Mirna could reply once again, Erebos intervened.
“It’s alright, Mirna. I’m tired anyway. I’ll leave.”
So Erebos left the little band, ignoring Aran’s snorts. He told his mother he wanted to go back home and so they went back. Once at the den, Erebos curled up in a corner and asked his mom:
“Mom, what does it mean to be the son of a demon?”
His mother looked at him, shocked by the question. Her eyes filled with tears, but she hid them from her son by turning her head.
“Who told you that? It means nothing, darling. Now you should sleep.”
“Ok Mama…”
His mother lay by his side and he fell asleep like any other night. His mother, though, had her head full of worries and couldn’t sleep. Erebos’ father entered the den and saw his love crying.
“What’s wrong, my love? Why are you crying?”
“The kids… They called Eri a demon’s child. I know what the rest of the herd is saying about me. I hear them whispering behind my back.”
“Shhhh” the male said in a comforting tone. “Don’t listen to what they say. You need not to worry about them, you have me and Erebos. It’s all that matters. Plus we both know that what they say isn’t true.”
“You’re right…”
The loving father kissed his mate and the two parents fell into a deep sleep, warmed by each other’s presence.
~Nine months later~
Erebos had grown into a fine and healthy Goennec. His body was strong and his mind was sharp, like his father’s. He could handle any physical task with ease. Even with his nice attributes, though, females tended to avoid his presence, like most of the herd. He was used to it, and besides, he had his parents. That’s the only thing he needed. Or that’s what he said, because deep down, he was longing for a mate. He had been watching Mirna from afar for some time now. He had watched her grow into a lovely lady and he couldn’t deny his feelings for her. One day, he finally gathered enough courage to go to her and ask her out. That’s when Aran came to him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he said in his usual arrogant tone.
“I’m going to see Mirna. Do you have a problem with it?”
“Actually I do. She is my girl, and you’re not going anything near her.”
“She’s not your girl.”
“What do you say about settling this in a little game?”
“What kind of game?” asked Erebos, suspicious.
“Just a little race. There is a small cavern, south from here. The first to get there gets to ask Mirna out. What do you say?”
“I say we have a deal.”
Erebos felt there was something wrong about this since everybody knew he was the fastest between the two, it had been proved many times before. Like he thought, he was the first to get to the meeting point. He waited, and waited. Aran never came. Feeling he had been fooled, he jolted back to the herd’s clearing. There he saw Aran, flirting outrageously with Mirna.
“You fooled me Aran, you little liar!” he said to him angrily.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Eri.”
“Don’t you dare called me Eri. You fooled me! You said we had a deal!”
“You called me a liar, when you’re obviously the one lying! That’s not surprising, though, coming from a demon’s child!”
“What did you called me?”
“You heard me right! Everybody knows that you’re not your father’s son! We all know that your mother frolicked with demons!”
“How dare you!”
Erebos wasn’t one prone to anger, but Aran had crossed the line. He rammed into him at full force, throwing him to the ground. He jumped on him and bit his front leg. That’s when Mirna pushed him off.
“Stop it already Eri! Stop!”
Erebos needed to take a deep breath to keep himself from jumping on Aran again.
“Why are you defending him, Mirna? I don’t understand!”
“You’ve got the wrong idea about me, Eri. I only pitied you. You’re not normal, you have to accept it, and I don’t think I would be able to mate with you. I mean… Look at you, your fur… It’s not normal.”
Shocked, Erebos kept silent. He gazed at every present Goennec, and fled into the woods.
Later that day, it was declared that Erebos would be exiled from the herd’s territory. That was the punishment for attacking a fellow herd member. Erebos never came back to hear his judgment. He already knew that he couldn’t go back, and he didn’t have the courage to see his mother’s tears or his father disappointed face. He had shamed his parents. He had made himself the monster everybody thought he was.
~A few weeks later~
Erebos had wandered for days. Surviving in these lands alone had revealed to be harder than he thought it would. He had to search for food, which wasn’t always easy depending on the area. But the hardest was to watch out for predators and find a safe place to sleep every night, and his fur wasn’t exactly helping him. As was going further north, cougar and lynx were more numerous. Many times he had thanked the Gods for making him stronger and faster than the usual Goennec, as he had encountered a few of these carnivorous beasts.
His sore hooves had finally led him into a small valley were life seemed to have deserted the place. The tall conifers casted their intimidating shadows and the humid air was stifling. Erebos shivered, because of the cold or the atmosphere he couldn’t tell. He then heard a loud crack and a snort coming from behind him.
“What is a lone Goennec is doing around these parts? It’s not safe, you know?” someone said in a mocking tone.
Erebos turned around swiftly and was relieved to see that it was another Goennec. There was a wide grin on his face and he seemed rather comfortable in this place.
“Who are you?” asked Erebos, not totally reassured.
“I should be one asking who you are, you are on my territory after all.” he responded, jumping from the rock he was standing and trotted toward the colorful male. “The name is Monsoon, glad to meet you!” he added with a large smile.
Startled by his easy-going and friendly manner, he gazed at the grinning Goennec, who was now a few centimeters away from him.
“Not the talkative type, eh?” said Monsoon.
“My name is Erebos.”
“Oh, so you do have a tongue. And a name too! Wonderful. So what are you doing around here?”
“Nothing, just passing by.”
“Do you have a herd?”
Erebos was taken aback by the question.
“No.”
“Then I officially invite you in mine!”
“Wait, what? I’m warning you, if this is a joke, it’s not funny. And who would want me in their herd.”
“I do. It’s not a joke, I’m telling you. Come and take a look if you want to, then maybe you could take your decision? The herd rests only a short mile away.”
Erebos didn’t answer, but Monsoon wasn’t waiting for a reply anyway. He just turned around and disappeared amongst the tree. He thought about it a few second, and sighed. What would it cost him to see? He ran and caught up with the grinning Goennec.
Erebos was shocked to see how small the herd was, but what surprised him the most was their welcoming and warm way. None of them thought he was odd or fear him. Everybody was smiling and greeting him like he had always been a member of the herd, like he had came back from a long journey. When the sky turned orange, Erebos isolated himself a bit. He laid down and watched the sun going down, tinting the world in a fiery color. He thought about Monsoon’s offer. He feared of being treated like a monster again, but he couldn’t go on alone for much longer. The Goennec here were all so warm…
“So, what is your answer?”
Erebos lifted his head toward Monsoon, and against the Goennec expectation, the colorful male smiled.
“Yes, I do want to stay with you.”
“Then welcome in the family, Erebos!”
Family… Yes, that’s what he had just found. A place to call home.
A few words about Erebos:
Erebos is a shy Goennec and he’s not the first one to socialize with new people. The most important thing for him is family and he’s longing to have one of his own. He is a loyal friend and a fierce warrior and makes it his responsibility to protect his fellow herd members. He was always amazed by the beauty of nature and he likes to sit and watch life follow its course. He’s no longer ashamed of what he looks like but he still doesn’t appreciate people making bad comments about it.
Starting the list again this week. :3 It seemed to help applicants, and it seemed to help speed up the judging sequence.
Sequence? Process? Bah. Whichever. :)
