Original artist entry

Edvin is a scholarly nixie who mostly keeps to himself. He lives in a cave at the bottom of an overgrown lake, spending his days studying water magic and the wide variety of flora and fauna which wield it. It is a seemingly never-ending task, for nearly every year yields at least a handful of new discoveries and ideas. Edvin is not particularly eager to share this knowledge with everyone who happens to find him, as some aspects of it could be highly destructive if wielded by a more morally reprehensible or even plain reckless spellcaster. Thankfully the few fables that have known enough to come looking for the nixie's lair so far have been easy to ignore or scare off - none have been foolish enough to remain in the water and truly challenge him in his own realm after seeing the horrors he can already conjure up on the lake's surface.

Although wary of strangers, Edvin is a gentle soul who considers it his duty to keep unwitting wanderers from stumbling in the weeds of his watery abode and possibly drowning. This habit of rescuing stray land dwellers is actually what lead to him meeting his one and only friend, Púca. The poor shapeshifter misstepped and sank into Edvin's lake like a rock once a couple decades ago, never having seen deep, plant-filled bodies of water while living underground. Usually the nixie is quick to tell his unwanted visitors to leave after rescuing them, but there was something about Púca's energy and boundless curiosity that fascinated him. Before he even noticed, a week had gone by and the shapeshifter was ready to depart on new adventures again. Even if the tales of Púca's many quests for shiny crystals can sometimes be hard to keep up with, Edvin always looks forward to the shapeshifter's next visit and hearing what trouble she has gotten herself into this time while out on her travels.

Púca is similarly appreciative of her aquatic friend and has in fact named a lake-bound ghost she stumbled across after Edvin's kind. This spirit, Nix, could not remember his own identity and Púca felt it would be sad to leave him nameless. After all, the lack of a name would only serve to constantly remind him of what he has lost. Given that the ghost's sullen demeanor and association with a lake reminded the shapeshifter of the nixie she is best buddies with, Púca felt that a name like Nix would make for the perfect fit. Considering she'd probably have to rely on the assistance of water magic in order to truly improve Nix's situation and how familiar she is with Edvin's aversion to strangers, one could argue that this choice of name may have also been strategic. Perhaps Púca thought that this name could make Edvin more symphathetic towards Nix by default, and he'd thus be happier to share helpful information, such as how one might go about uprooting the spiritual essence of a bound ghost from their watery grave.

taking a short break from comm work to finish up one or two of the artist entries in my drafts! I'm kind of enamored with the idea of an anglerfish lure on the tail that can be wiggled around like a real angler would! Had a bit of trouble with this one, but I thought it turned out nice c:
