I decided since I love Dereklings so much I should make a guide to show friends on what “counts” as a Derekling or Derek.
Chances are that if you are reading this you have no clue what a “Derek” is other than that it is a name. However, to me, a Derek is much more… Dereklore time.
Dereklore Chapter 1 - The Beginning: It was a cold and snowy night, not long after December 18th. Me and my boyfriend, known on here as nerparock, sat inside, huddled up against the cold. The Pound opened, so we checked it side by side. I hastily clicked something, but my boyfriend took his time. On one refresh, I saw him. Derek. A little pink, yellow, and white hamster named Derek. I instantly begged my boyfriend to pick Derek and I would trade him something really good in exchange. My boyfriend wasn’t so sure. He refreshed again and again, and each time Derek still appeared. Nobody wanted him and it broke my heart. Finally, my boyfriend decided that he would claim Derek to take me up on my offer. I traded him one of my only rares and another wishlist pet. Derek was home! In the image he is the one wearing a tiny matching hat.
Dereklore Chapter 2 - The Derekverse: I quickly realized that Derek was a Gen 2 pet with a wide host of siblings in every shade of Derek visible to the human eye. I also quickly became curious about who his parents were, so I found out using the CS wiki. Both of his parents were very adorable, and came from decently sized litters. Feeling a strong urge to reunite Derek with his family, I wishlisted all of his litter and his parent’s litters. The Pound became an exclusive search for his kin. When showing my boyfriend some of my new hamsters, he commented that a specific litter of Valentines hamsters were Derek-ly to him. As the person who gave me Derek I think he has a lot of authority on this matter, so the search expanded. I coined a new term, “Derekling,” to signify closeness or relation to Derek without actually being Derek. Derek’s siblings, parents, aunts and uncles are all Dereklings. However, I do consider some pets to be variants of Derek. For example, in the guide, I placed two different rainbow hamsters below Derek. This is because these hamsters are not Dereklings, but rather Derek in a different form. They are Pride Derek and Philly Pride Derek, because Derek is supportive of the LGBTQ+ community as well as Philadelphia. And the LGBTQ+ community in Philadelphia. It looks like the Philadelphia pride flag, he doesn’t just have opinions on Philadelphia for some reason. I don’t think he knows what Philadelphia is. Point being, those two are distinctly Dereks, not Dereklings. You can tell which litter a Derekling is from based off of the way I name them. Dereklings from the litter of “Derekmama” all include “Derekitty” in the name, because they all have cat-like fur patterns. Dereklings from the litter of “Derekpapa” all include “original” in the name, with one exception for a Derekling with “ancient” in the name. Valentines Dereklings all follow this naming scheme: “[Description of a physical characteristic] Derekling Love You.”
Dereklore Chapter 3 - The Mysteries of Bygone Times: Gathering the Dereks together was an arduous task. This is mostly because I quickly started a much bigger goal of having every hamster because Derek made me realize I love hamsters. However, since I was searching for every hamster, I found something interesting along the way, a potential ancient ancestor of the Dereklings. Towards the middle, between the Valentines and “Derekpapa” litter, there is a tricolored hamster. I suspect this is an ancestor of the Dereklings because of its resemblance to “Derekling Original Tricolor.” I have thus named it “Derekling Ancient Tricolor.” Other hypotheses about Derekling genetics is that the Pride Derek variants originate from the rainbow striped Derekling, who would be Derek’s aunt or uncle. I’m sure there are many more Derek mysteries to be uncovered. We will just have to see…
Derek yay 👍
