sooo i woke up in a cold sweat one night and binge-researched to make this creature!!
supa secret name because if these children get stolen, i will come after you for them
introducing my brain children, a metatherian that descended from a common ancestor between placental mammals and marsupials that did not diverge, causing them to exhibit features of both placental feliforms and metatherians.
In other words, this is a cat-like creature that exists if marsupials and felines did not diverge in evolution. a marsupial lion, had they not perished.
they are omnivores, capable of consuming a wide variety of foods.
but with their feline nature, they are more drawn to the idea of a hunt and go about it in a particular way.
these creatures are arboreal, meaning they spend the majority of their lives tree-borne.
they have semi-oppasable thumbs on lion-like paws, useful for grappling trees and manipulating prey, as well as long, thick prehensile tails and rotating ankles to make climbing all the more easier. they are not built for speed, but what they lack in this department, they more than make up for in sheer power.
their bite force is stronger than any mammal to have ever existed, more than capable of crushing through bone.
both sexes possess saber fangs, and the ability to open their jaws to a staggering 80 degrees.
however, male saber fangs are longer, used to intimidate and slash at opponents and enemies.
females possess pouches, unique to all other feliforms, in which they use to birth and raise their young, called joeys.
they can have up to two joeys at once, which she uses her back-facing pouch for.
when the joeys outgrow the pouch, they can be found nestled in their parents' thick manes and on their backs until they set out on their own.
let me know what yall think! i did my research for these babies and would love to share my ideas with others!
