marko . female . 23
there's a rather large group of kalons whose sole responsibility is to ensure the wellbeing of other kalons from
the beasts that lurk in the corners of the earth that wish to invade. they are to enlist upon their own will
but must acknowledge the fact that they may not come back the same, or, at all
marko wanted to enlist in this group from a young age, she idolized them. her parents tried to talk
her out of it, afraid that if she went through with it they'd lose their little girl.
but she'd already made up her mind.
it was such a ridiculous cliché, these kinds of things didn't happen to her
sent back home because of a severe head injury, marko felt lost. she felt as though she had no right to be angry, she should be grateful that she was even alive. that creature was moments away from doing even worse damage to her. but it just wasn't fair, she was supposed to be out there fighting and protecting these citizens, and now as she walked through the relatively busy streets she just felt guilt, anger and somewhat lost. what was she supposed to do now? she grew up with one goal in mind, and now that's just gone.
marko walked down the street, eye flickering from the stores to the faces walking past. she spotted a nice little bakery further down the street, her mother had asked her to get out of the house and bring back something nice. perhaps she could bring back some freshly baked goods? she walked inside, the chiming of the bells on the door startled her slightly but she continued. she didn't want to be the freak who bolted out of a bakery because of bells scaring her.
she walked into the store, eyeing off the sweet treats behind the glass. she purchased a cinnamon roll for herself and some doughnuts for her parents. marko sat at one of the tables inside the bakery and began to eat the dessert, the atmosphere in here was nice and calm. she looked around the store as she ate, appreciating the lovely decore.
that's when she locked eyes with the girl across the room
the girl smiled shyly at her, marko mustered up every bit of her confidence and she stood up, bringing the dessert with her.
"mind if i sit here?" she asked
the girl shook her head "not at all"
so, she sat down. the conversation was rocky at the beginning, but they soon eased into it and then it was incredibly easy for them to talk to one another and they spoke as if they'd known each other for their entire lives. marko couldn't help but ask it, the only thing on her mind that day had been careers.
"so, do you work around here?" sheshouldn't have asked that, she barely knows this girl! what if it's a sore spot wha-
"oh! i work down at the florist's down the street!" the girl — sage, that's her name — said happily, she seemed to be prideful of her job. Which gave marko a huge sense of relief.
"really? perhaps i might have to swing by, could you show me the way there?" she asked, celebrating mentally because wow that was the smoothest things she'd ever said in a verbal conversation.
sage raised her eyebrows and chuckled, covering her mouth with her paw. "sure, i'm just about done with my lunch break c'mon" she stood up, marko followed.
"oh! and this is something i arranged earlier this morning, i want you to have it. sunflowers are my favourite and they just lighten everything up, y'know?" sage handed the bouquet to marko, it consisted of baby's breath and sunflowers and was absolutely beautiful.
marko was speechless, this kalon — who was a stranger to her no longer than an hour ago — was being so kind to her. her of all people. she didn't deserve this? she was supposed to be out helping, fighting. but she's here, in the small town she grew up in, eating sweet treats and receiving flowers from a pretty girl.
"t-thank you" she stumbled over her words, "they're beautiful. do you need me to pay for this? i can, i wouldn't want you to be getting in trouble with your boss-"
sage interrupted her, laughing gently "honey, i am the boss, don't fret about it, seriously" she smiled at marko, who's heart subsequently melted. "although.. i do know some way you can pay me back, could i perhaps have your number? i'd love to talk to you again. and since i haven't seen you around before it's safe to assume you're not from around here?"
marko flushed, embarrassed "i don't.. have a phone yet.." she mumbled, "and i've just moved back here after moving for uh, my job"
"oh! i see, would you like my number then?" sage asked, marko nodded and off she went to go fetch a piece of paper. the girl scribbled what was presumably her phone number onto the piece of paper and handed it to marko, grinning. "can't wait to see you around then! i should really be getting back to work though, it was nice meeting you"
marko thanked her and headed off, flowers in tow.
perhaps moving back home wasn't so bad, although it didn't stop her from feeling any less like a failure, maybe her path to recovery wouldn't be as bad as she'd initially thought. she spoke to sage over the phone numerous times using her parent's phones before she finally received her own phone.
and as she spoke to sage she'd decided that although she may be lost at the moment, at least she wasn't alone.
now, story aside, here's some personality info about marko c;
marko . female . 23 . ((big)) lesbian energy . ex-soldier, honorably discharged due to head trauma (blind in right eye)
personality
marko is a very strong-willed girl, if she wants to achieve something she'll do everthing in her power to get that done. because of this she often doesn't think past her main goals, and once they are completed she becomes lost due to not planning ahead. she doesn't think about the future a lot and is quite impulsive, typically just going with the flow. marko is generally very calm, if something doesn't go according to plan she won't panic as she's honestly not a very 'panicky' individual. (lucky) her emotions often dictate her actions.
random notes:
- suddenly has a newfound love for sunflowers /i wonder why??/
- struggles a lot with coming to terms with her blindness
> refuses to ask for help, refuses to actually acknowledge her injury on a bad day
- she has a huGE sweet tooth, her favourite sweet things are rock candy and cupcakes
- recently took up baking as a hobby to fill in her spare time - she loves it
- has the worst taste in music, like really catchy 2000's pop songs that you'd listen to at the primary school disco
- cannot sing in the slightest but she will sing at the top of her lungs when nobody is home
