xxxxxxxxAn unfortunate side effect to being a bespectacled little miss such as myself is that glasses
xxxxxxxxtend to force one to look toward the ground whenever the clouds gather overhead, heavy
xxxxxxxxand with threats of a storm. The gathering of moisture on one’s lens is too much of a hassle
xxxxxxxxotherwise. Typically, I am without an umbrella and unable to stay outside for too long before
xxxxxxxxI become a sopping mess, but for as long as I can stick around, I try to take deeper breaths.
xxxxxxxxLong, lung-filling gulps that come with a rush of cool air just on the edge of biting and the
xxxxxxxxencompassing scent of petrichor.

xxxxxxxxThe simple atmosphere that rain offers is incredibly calming and is one of the few ways that
xxxxxxxxI can completely decompress from the stresses of school and home. When I can’t be entirely
xxxxxxxxsurrounded by it, I usually settle for being as close to the window as possible, cuddled up in
xxxxxxxxa thick blanket to keep warm and hide the goose bumps that rise when the wind manages to
xxxxxxxxslip through some of the frayed threads. The window is cracked open only a little bit, enough
xxxxxxxxto let the air flow through a closed off bedroom and to let the ever calming scent permeate.
xxxxxxxxI’d get in trouble if I were caught with my window open in the midst of a rainstorm.

xxxxxxxxA book will have found its way into my hands, showing signs of regular use despite having been
xxxxxxxxbought new recently. Dog ears mark my first read-through, and there are pages that hold the
xxxxxxxxbumps and dips where my fingers were pressed long enough to heat and reform the paper while
xxxxxxxxI tried to absorb every little detail. There are several stacks made up of the rest of the series
xxxxxxxxpiled atop the edges of the blanket where it drapes down from the chair, as if to hold it down
xxxxxxxxeven though it wouldn’t be going anywhere. The rain will probably stop before I get to move
xxxxxxxxonto them, but having them near prevents me from ever having to move from my cozy spot.

xxxxxxxxAlongside the gentle tattoo of the rain, I might also give an ear to a playlist of music box
xxxxxxxxmelodies. The chimes are sweet and blend easily with the pitter patter outside. Should the
xxxxxxxxrain last longer than a brief moment, I might also have a colorful mug filled to the brim with
xxxxxxxxhot cocoa sat at my side on the windowsill. A sip settles the shivers that might come around
xxxxxxxxfrom the chill and the wafting scent interlaces prettily with the already pungent scent of
xxxxxxxxrainfall. I need do nothing else but read and rest when the rain comes. My attention can be
xxxxxxxxwholly on myself.

I Like to kneel close to the puddles
and help the worms out of the deeper ones,

Congratulations, you are the winner c: I will have this guy grow up with in a week. I am going to have to ask you bare with me though, as I have a truely crazy week. It might be a tad late.

I have to give major kiddos to Grey_hoidie as the RU though, I really enjoyed your writing.

In the end however it ultimately came back to nostalgia, as I remember worm hunting after rainstorms as a child very fondly
