At the Bottom of the Sea

The little mer-wolf took a deep breath then dove down in pursuit of the odd fish. He had been swimming by the far edge of the reef when he caught sight of the oarfish. He recalled tales of these serpentine deep dwellers , and the dark barren world they called home. Its every movement mesmerized him , he had never seen anything so beautiful or so alien. The oarfish turned to look at him and swam in a slow circle before heading back over the reefs edge. Entranced, the wolf followed. For so long he chased the fish, far from the reef and ever deeper into the ocean. Things steadily grew dimmer and he felt the pressure of water surrounding him. The ocean became cold and near black, the wolf feared he would loose sight of the fish soon. The oarfish slowed as one by one tiny lights began to appear in the darkness. Soon the ocean was lit up by the strange phosphorescent creatures of the deep. The wolf swam in a slow circle with the fish, breathing in the cold water of this strange world.
