Why, you ask?
A simple question, but with many ways it could differ from what the night truly means to her.
Perhaps it's the quiet the night brings, only the sound of crickets and the occasional howl of an animal being heard.
Or the stillness of the air, sometimes broken by a slight gust of damp air, cooling her skin.
It mite even be the firefly's in the sky, hanging just above the waters and shining their light
slowing for all to see.
She was born beneath such skies, silence blanketing her arrival into this world.

name: Hotaru Nocte. Hotaru is Japanese for firefly.

gender: both. she was born female, but as insects do, she changes genders over a certain period of time. that period for her is a week; though why she does it when not introduced to the catalysts that insects are, nobody knows.

why does she love the night: The night is a time of passion and revelation. In the day, people put on a show. They are in the spotlight of the sun, and they cannot reveal their true colors as they are openly being observed. People in this respect are like fireflies; they cannot glow at night, nor do they seek out the company of those they truly wish to be around. They blend in during the day, they go about their lives as if they are being documented on every move they make. A lightning bug does not seek out a mate or make itself known to the world as what it is during the day, it waits until dusk where it can find those like it easily and without a facade around them, a camouflage. She also knows that fireflies and people alike do not survive well when caught and held behind glass; they would rather perish in the span of a day than succumb to hitting the glass while they gaze at freedom.

Hotaru sees people for what they are at night. Are they a writer or artisan that stays up until the early hours of the morning to perfect their project? Are they an insomniac like her, too full of thoughts and questions and dreams to let themselves succumb to sleep? Are they haunted by something; dreams, fears, anxieties, anticipation? Taru very rarely sleeps at night, being a nocturnal girl who prefers to sit upon the roof of her cottage and watch the night pass by and reveal its secrets to her. She watches her firefly friends light up in the summer, and she is observant of the fact that once cloaked in darkness, a person's true colors shine through.
