Land of Old || Dragon RP {Open & Accepting}

Dragons invaded earth one thousand years ago, a void having opened in space just outside of earths atmosphere. They had come to reclaim lands they rightfully owned, and they took them back with ease. However such a raid did not come without a price. The dragon-kin were only able to preform such an attack due to a plead to their singular God-- a plea that was answered. They got their transportation back to this all-but-forgotten planet but at the price of not being able to return to their homelands for two millennium (one of which has already passed). Humans were forced into hiding, and either try to live their lives as normally and carefully as possible or hold such a vengeance toward the fire-creatures that they decide to hunt them down and slay the beasts. Survival can be difficult in this new, primal world.

It all started with a spark and then the luminescence of the navy night sky. A void ripped into time opened in the vacuum of space just outside Earth's atmosphere, and out of it came mankind's downfall. They descended, their tough scales protecting them and causing them to look almost like abnormal meteorites as their velocity ignited the beasts. The next morning, human civilization would lie in ruin and the population that had survived the surprise attack the night previous would be in hiding.

Dragons had returned to the planet humans once called home. They laid ruin to everything in their paths, centuries of rage toward the humanoids finally released in one simultaneous outburst. The dragons had come to reclaim a land that was once theirs, and they won with ease. Human kind had not prepared for the creatures return and that was their ultimate downfall. Those that remained were forced to live in secret, for if their now hidden civilizations were found.. they would be exterminated like rats.

Not all of the giant reptilians were for the removal of the humans, however they were not great enough in number to stop their brethren when they pleaded to their ethereal God to open a portal to their domain of old. Their single deity granted the majorities wish, but not without consequence. They wouldn't be allowed to return to their New domain for the next two millennium since they wanted the Land of Old back within their clutches.

One millennium has passed at this point. Humans that live in these days refer to the year as 1000 A.F., 'One thousand years After Fall' undoubtedly referring to the initial invasion of the dragon-kind that happened one thousand years before.

You inhabit earth, whether you are are of human-kind or dragon-kin, this is your age of survival. Some humans have become mercenaries, hunters for hire that have skill in taking out the fire-beasts, while others just focus on trying to live a fairly normal life. The dragons that have flourished here usually come in two varieties-- the kind that tolerate human presence, and the kind that can't stand it. Those that absolutely despise the humans, for whatever reason it may be, have been known to actively hunt the bi-peds and wipe out entire villages.

Humans; Will you survive in this new, harsher world? Or will your kind fall to the dragon-kin? Will you try to live a fairly normal life or do you decide you want to hunt the beasts that have caused you to live in almost a medieval life-style?
Dragons; You have been thrown into this world that few of you likely remember, yet you fought fiercely for it. You have seen your brethren fall, but even so some of you don't retain any anger toward the human-kind and others.. well, have not been able to loose the fire that burns in their hearts. How will you choose to survive in these Lands of Old? Do you wish to end the humans existence, or do you tolerate their presence?

2. I do not want to see any powerplaying or godmodding. Doing such will get you a warning, a second offense will get your characters removed from this roleplay. :c
3. I would prefer genders to be kept even if possible. If things get uneven, I will not accept more of the more popular gender until the other has gained enough to balance.
4. Fade to black during mating and birthing scenes. This is a child friendly site.
5. I would prefer at least three (well formed) sentences in each post, and more is highly appreciated! <3
6. Please have proper spelling & decent grammar. It isn't too hard to run a post through a spellchecker before posting. (ie. http://www.spellcheck.net/ )
7. Drama is encouraged, but too much drama can bore people. Also, please don't make your character always the center of attention. <3 And try to include everyone. :D
8. You can have as many characters you want, just be active with them all.

Any human with an occupation that requires them living in a Hidden Civilization will all be living in the civilization hidden among a ginormous forest of conifers, a forest that has protected them for the past one thousand years due to drake-kin lore stating that the forest means death to all that enter (the cause of the death was never specified, but rather hinted at a menace that none could rise to defeat. Turns out drakes take their lore seriously). Because of this, this civilization has also become almost a capital for the humans that remain, becoming the largest of the Hidden Civilizations on New Earth. The town itself is built on the side of a chasm that cuts through a section of their sanctuary, some of the houses even residing in the cave systems that run through this ravine. Farm plots are often kept in large 'rooms' cut into the cliffside.



• Humans usually live in small villages hidden from prying eyes, often hidden in valleys, coves or caverns. These communities are small, ranging from fifteen to eighty people.
• Humans usually have a chief that they rely on for decisions. The chief is normally the oldest and wisest in their settlement.
• Humans have been known to travel in family groups and as nomads, never staying in one place for too long.
• Most advanced technology was lost in The Fall one thousand years ago. Weapons are usually bows or swords, and in a settlement this is always a blacksmith. The higher quality the blade, the more likely it is to break through a dragons tough hide. High quality swords (and shields) are usually sought after.
• The currency system has returned to that of copper, silver and gold coins.
• The year is referred to as 1000, 1000 A.F or one thousand years after fall.
• The time of year is referred to by season by human kind, and usually described by characteristic by dragon-kind. (Ie. Spring could be the Time of New Life or the Beginning of Warmth)

• Dragons can come in a variety of sizes, though most don't make it over fifteen feet tall.
• Males are usually brighter colours while females are darker colours, but this isn't always the case.
• Dragons either live on their own or in colonies made up of multiple females and a single male. If the dragon has found itself a colony, they often behave similar to that of the horse-- the male breeds with all of the females in his colony, minus his daughters who usually leave once they become of age.
• Due to this life style, females go through three stages of heat that all together last about a week, the final stage being where they pretty much always accept a male.
• A female can lay anywhere between one and six eggs in a clutch, but usually only two or three hatch.
• Once a female has been mated, she will not come back into heat until her clutch is either.. removed by a rival male or the hatchlings age to adolescents.
• As mentioned above, lone males seeking to steal a female for themselves and start their own colony will often kill the females current clutch / hatchlings, if she has one, to throw her back into heat as well as remove future competition.
• Dragons mature quickly but overall age slowly once an adult, 0 - 2 years = hatchling, 3 - 5 years = adolescent, 6+ years = adult. When a dragon reaches the age of 1000, s/he is usually considered an elder, but their life cycle continues on from there until about five thousand, where it is likely they will die from natural illness.




Spring


Clutches of eggs laid in autumn of last year should be beginning to hatch, and the female dragon-kin are busy guarding their young from any potential threats (mainly other males, that would see to remove the young to throw the dragoness back into heat). The males are usually preparing themselves for summer, continuing to build up their strength for the time of year that most dragonesses will go back into heat if they raised their hatchlings to adolescents. This is also the time of year where colony dominates receive the most challenges for their position by other males. Now that winter has passed, human-kind are usually planting crops and removing those that had been damaged in the previous months cold.

Personality ; A bit 'rough around the edges', as some used to say, but overall a fairly gentle dragon that prefers to sleep than fight. He can sound harsh at times but normally whatever he has to say is for your own good. Sotjusk, while not exactly friendly towards humans, wouldn't hunt down one of their dens just to destroy them though it is obvious the large male dragon holds a grudge against their kind, for some reason or another.

Notes ;
- Often found sleeping in a large lake at its deepest point, doesn't appreciate being awoken before he feels it is right.
- Is not afraid to chase a human down if they disturb him-- Sot has been known to chase for a few miles before going back to the nearest lake.
- Sotjusk is a panlong, or huanglong dragon.

Personality ; A fairly skittish dragon, and for good reason-- she is.. well, rather small. Even for hitting her adult years, when walking on her wings she only stands about four feet at the head (where as if Avani stood on only her hind legs she would be about five to seven feet tall). This young dragon has yet to have a solid interaction with a human and thus isn't exactly settled on her feelings toward them. Right now, it is more wariness (and slight fear of the unknown) than either hatred or love.

Notes ;
- Avani is a wyvern, and a rather small one at that.
- This dragoness is insecure about her size when around larger dragons (or creatures in general) and while another dragon would never become a cannibal, Avani still finds it unsettling to be so small compared to most others.
- As mentioned above, this young drake doesn't yet have strong opinions toward mankind.

Personality ; A fairly reclusive girl that prefers to stay that way, even if she does secretly long for company. Alice has a strong fear of dragons and after events that happened a few years ago she has taken up being a nomad, constantly moving from place to place to avoid the drake-kin.
History ; Originally, Alice was born to a civilization hidden in the caverns alongside a long stretch of shore-line that lead to the vast expanse of the ocean. Until her twelfth year on this primal earth everything had been wonderful-- their settlement had even pushed dragons from their minds completely, which was their ultimate downfall. They were not prepared for when they were discovered one steamy afternoon. An afternoon where few would survive, and those that did had no where else to go, no one else to turn to. Alice had watched as her mother was killed by the beast and barely escaped herself, only able to for the cave system collapsed behind her and ended the drakes life added to those that it had taken. Through the whole ordeal, the only reminder Alice keeps with her is an old iron flute (that was, at one time her mothers) which she often plays in the evenings as the sun sets.
