The sky was dark. Cats from all around gathered, and fear coursed through the crowd. One by one the stars flickered out of existence. The ground rumbled and the sky cracked. Clan cats begged Starclan to return. Kittypets trembled, wining for their Twolegs to come back and save them. Rogues complained about being dragged into the chaos. Loners longed to return to the safety of their homes.

Finally, it stopped. All was silent. The cats waited in anticipation for something more to happen. The sky was shattered and empty. They were safe, for now.

However, a new question arose. Who would lead them?

A tom with fur black as the sky and a muzzle silvery-white like the moon stood, looking over the crowd with brilliant orange eyes. "I am Nightfur of what was once Shadowclan. I propose that we all band together. We Clan cats can fashion a hierarchy based off of the old Clans, and we can provide protection and guidance to those who are unfamiliar with Clanlife."

Another cat stood, this one a she-cat with patched dark brown and grey fur and blue eyes. "Let me guess, you want to be the leader? You Shadowclan cats are all the same. I am Marshfoot from Windclan, and I do not trust you to lead a Clan."

"And what makes you think that you would be a better leader?" Nightfur retorted.

"Besides the fact that I happen to be the deputy of my Clan?"

"Silence, the both of you."

A tom with snow white fur and icy blue eyes stood, lashing his tail. "I am called Snow. I hope you two realize that not all of us favor the Clans the same way as you do. Perhaps we would all be better off if lead by one not from the Clans, such as I?"

The cats began bickering, debating amongst themselves who should lead.

"Everyone, please!"

A she-cat with light brown fur and bright green eyes stood. "Can we stop fighting? Why can't we just get along?"

"Who are you?"

"I am Leaf. I believe that we should have the freedom to chose who should lead us."

"Enough. I am going to the forest south of here that lies at the base of a mountain. Those who wish to join me are welcome to follow."

"If you go to the south, I will go to the north. There are hills there similar to Windclan's old territory. Any who wish to follow may."

"I shall climb the mountain that lays in between the forest and hills. Come with me if you wish."

Leaf sighed, looking to the rest of the cats. "I will go to the forest on the other side of the river. I do not ask for you to follow, but if you seek leadership elsewhere, I can do my best to provide."

And so, the cats split.

Some chose to follow Nightfur and his love of tradition, as well as strict rules and harsh punishments. These cats formed Nightclan.

Other cats preferred the more level-headed Marshfoot, with looser rules and a lot of organization. These cats formed Marshclan.

Some followed Snow, the outspoken past-rogue who favored independence and despised cowardice. These cats formed Snowclan.

Many others joined gentle, peace-loving Leaf, with her kind and open-minded attitude. These cats formed Leafclan.

Some refused to join one of the Clans, instead fleeing to the lands around and beyond the Clan territories.

Now, it's time for you to choose.

1. All of Tess' rules apply.

2. You cannot have a flawless character. You cannot win every battle, or be perfectly likeable by all.

3. Use your best spelling and grammar. (I understand that mistakes happen.)

4. No text talk, please and thank you.

5. Try to write at least two sentences per character.

6. You cannot be your own crush, mate, or mentor.

7. Make your cats look however you want, HOWEVER, the colors used must be natural. You can have patterns that aren't found on normal cats, but you can't have, say, pink fur or purple eyes. (If this sounds confusing pm me for more examples.) Use any name you wish, though I would prefer semi-traditional.

8. LGBT+ cats are allowed.

9. You can make as many cats as you wish, but please make sure you can handle them all. Also, try to keep genders even.

10. One high ranking cat per person. (Alright I'm done telling you how to make your cats but still stick around please)

11. Do not powerplay. Powerplaying includes (but is not limited to): Landing a hit on another character without having the owner's consent, controlling what another character does without the owner's consent, killing another character without the owner's consent, etc.

12. Detach signatures when posting on the roleplay thread. (If you don't know what this means, scroll down. There should be a tab right underneath the postbox that says 'Options'. Fourth one down says 'Attach a signature'. Uncheck it.)

13. Reservations on ranks last for two days (48 hours).

Leafclan, founded by once-loner Leaf, lives in a forest bordering Marshclan and Nightclan. A river separates Leafclan's side of the forest from Nightclan's side. Leafclan's territory is less dense than Nightclan's territory as well. Their prey includes small rodents such as mice and voles, the occasional rabbit, squirrels, and small birds. A few more daring cats may catch fish in the river that separates Leafclan from Nightclan, or in a few less-dangerous streams that run through the territory. Leafclan cats tend to be open-minded, inclusive, and friendly.

Marshclan, founded by once Windclan deputy Marshfoot, lives in a hilly area to the north of the mountain on which Snowclan lives. Ironically, there are some more marshy areas in the west and south of Marshclan's territory. Their prey consists of rabbits, mice, small birds, and the occasional fish. Marshclan cats tend to love having things organized and well-planned. They also tend to be more clever, and they tend to think things through before saying or doing them.

Nightclan, founded by once Shadowclan warrior Nightfur, lives in a dense wooded area next to the mountain where Snowclan lives. Their part of the forest is separated from Leafclan's part of the forest by a river. Their main prey are small rodents such as mice and voles, squirrels, small birds, and occasionally fish. Nightclan cats first lived under strict rules, with punishments given if they aren't followed. They also originally lived following the old Warrior Code as closely as possible. Many of these habits and traditions carried over into current Nightclan life. Nightclan cat's tend to be aggressive, and tend to hate change.

Snowclan, founded by once-loner Snow, lives atop a mountain with Nightclan south-east to them and Marshclan north to them. They prey on birds and the occasional rabbit, squirrel, or small rodent. Snowclan cats tend to be courageous, as well as independent and sometimes withdrawn. They will not leave their Clanmates behind, however.

Cats who refuse to join the Clans, most commonly called Loners or Rogues, live and hunt in forests, hills, and abandoned Twolegplaces outside of Clan territory. Their prey depends on where they live. Those who live in forests may hunt similar to Nightclan or Leafclan cats, while those in more open areas may find prey similar to that in Marshclan territory. Any living in abandoned Twolegplaces may find mice, or leftover food from before the Twolegs left.

A lone kittypet named Misty wandered away from the newly-formed Clans. She didn't want to be near the strange cats. She followed a strip of dirt which trailed, almost path-like, in between the light forest claimed by Leafclan and the hills where Marshclan roamed. She had nowhere else to go with her two-legs gone, so why not wander and find a place to stay?

However, as the day passed and turned to sun-down, she grew worried.

She had no place to stay. She would have to sleep out in the cold and dark.

Her nervousness pushed her to move faster down the path, until it faded away into just grass. Looking up, Misty saw a large hill rise up before her. It was guarded by the ruins of walls made of stone; once grand, now broken. She cautiously began climbing the hill.

A fog rose up around her, making it hard to see the top. Shards and bricks of stone lay scattered about the steep hill. In some places, slabs of stone jutted up from the ground. Shadows were cast by the wreckage, adding a ghostly effect. Before her, a taller shadow loomed.

When Misty reached the top of the hill, she saw that it was a tower that stood, casting it's shade across the hill. The walls of it where worn down, with several gaps where bricks once filled. The fog blocked the top of it from Misty's view.

The kittypet swallowed her fear. This was a two-leg building, right? And where there were two-leg buildings, there would be two-legs.

She entered the spectral tower. The perpetual fog blocked any upper floors from her sight, but a rickety staircase spiraled upwards to them. She meowed, hoping for a response. She got none.

She cautiously began climbing the stairs, leaping from step to step. Some steps were missing, some broken, some covered in debris from other steps. It took a lot of climbing, and Misty was out of breath before long. She glanced down, only to find the bottom floor obscured by fog. She gulped loudly and kept climbing.

Finally, as night stretched over the land, she reached the top. The top of the tower was open to the night sky, and the fog was lighter there. However, something seemed off.

A chill breeze swept over Misty. She turned her gaze to the sky once more, seeing that instead of dark, the clouds above her were interlaced with stars. She gasped, noticing how the path of stars swept down through clouds and fog, ending on that very tower.

One of the earth-bound stars suddenly glowed brighter, growing larger until it took the form of a cat. The cat met Misty's petrified gaze.

"Go to the Clans. Bring their leaders to this tower. Starclan has not been erased yet."
