Merry gritted his teeth, tensing a bit. "Of course I don't like them. You know how they feel about me being gay."

"That doesn't mean you can't still talk to them, they are your family!"

"They told me I was some sort of freak!" Merry protested. "Besides, I don't pressure you to talk to Grandpa."

(Wouldn't they only have one grandparent on Ariel's side?)

(Eric doesn't have a mother either so... Let's just say they got remarried?)

"Grandpa just doesn't understand what it means to be an adventure."

"He doesn't get anything about why I want to explore everything Gramps(Ariel's dad) doesn't tell us. I want to bring research to the world of those creatures not many people know about."

(So, I think when we remake this we should just do a basic school thing, like not have the fairy tale following. Just they go to school to be who and what they want and not be judged. You know? Like if they do or don't follow their story.)

(Like just have them be the kids of the fairy tale characters but take out following or breaking the story. So a basic fairy tale high school. Like descendants)
