Rianon met Keegan’s eyes with her own and realized that they truly hadn’t meant to sound rude. “I... don’t know,” she replied. “It’s the only one left, maybe if we quietly just keep going it’ll lose track of us?” Rianon really had no idea what they were supposed to do with it now that it wasn’t able to be turned to stone. “I didn’t mean to make things more difficult.”

"I know, and I promise I'll make it up to you once we're out of here," they said gently and looked back at the catoblepas stumbling around the clearing. Since it didn't have its sight, it'd have to rely on something else. Picking up three stones, they tossed them in quick succession. Their clatter turned the creature's attention away from them and they sent a smile to Rianon.

Rianon smiled back at Keegan and silently reached over and grabbed Keegan’s hand. She pulled them along the path, moving silently away from the blind catoblepas. Once they were safely out of the way of the catoblepas she dropped their hand, blushing slightly. “I’m sorry,” she repeated. “I just... didn’t think before I did what I did. I could have ruined everything.”

They stumbled behind her and blushed as the hands held each other. When she dropped it and apologized, they didn't think twice before picking her hand back up and holding it on both of their own.
"Hey, it's ok. It was a special circumstance and really, I'd probably be medusa-buffalo dirt if you hadn't intervened," they said and realized they still had her hand. It didn't matter though, it was out in the open now, "we're okay and that's all that matters, right?"

Rianon stared at the ground as Keegan spoke, thinking about what they were saying. It was true, both of them were okay and somehow hadn’t been injured either, although her already wounded arm was not happy about the tackling. She raised her eyes back up and looked at Keegan and nodded. “You’re right. Neither of us got hurt, and right now that’s the best we can hope for.” She laced her fingers between Keegan’s and squeezed their hand gently.

They let out a smile and turned to head up the trail with them alongside, "come on then."
The sounds of a gurgling stream could be heard further up. Feeling a little more relaxed knowing they were just that much closer, they let out a shaky sigh and giggle, trying not to attract anymore attention. That was when they realized other than the potential of being attacked again, they were truly alone in a wonderful natural setting.
"Finally, it's just us for once without us being alone in your dad's car," they said with a chuckle and looked back towards her.

Rianon looked down at their hands still entwined, then back up at Keegan, a smile spreading across her face. She never would have guessed that she could have gone from almost being hit with a pillow to this in such a short amount of time. She leaned her head on Keegan’s shoulder as they walked. “Don’t get any ideas,” she teased, pointing up at the sun. “My dad is always watching.”

The feeling of Rianon's hand in their own and now the gentle weight of her head on their shoulder as they both walked alongside the stream now made their cheeks burn bright. They were glad for the peace, but was barely able to keep it together when Rianon teased them about her dad. They burst out laughing and squeezed her hand a little. When they opened their eyes, a déjà vu moment hit them from that dream they had a few nights ago.
"Wow déjà vu," they said and looked around, "we must be close."

Rianon lifted her head off of Keegan’s shoulder and looked around at the area surrounding them, though she kept her hand in theirs. “What makes you say that?” she asked. Her dreams had mostly been about the camp lately, not about their actual quest, so she didn’t know exactly what to look for as an indicator of being close to Soteria.

"That first night on the bus," they said as they looked upstream up towards the mountain, "I dreamt these past couple of seconds."
It was a weird feeling, but they knew they had to continue up to Soteria. Only, it couldn't be that easy to get to a goddess who is all about safety? Readying their shadow dagger in their free hand, they gave a gentle squeeze to Rianon's, "there's probably some sort of safety traps we should look out for cause I think we're close."
