River tilted his head and let out a small sigh, standing up, "Just passing through," he said quietly, "Nice to meet you,"
he flicked his tail and turned to start to walk along the fence, pausing to glance back at the housecat. It was odd for a housecat to be so hostile--then again, that wasn't even considered hostile in most other places--just when it came to housecats. It seemed as if he knew what being territorial was.
Guess he was never vetted, River thought, an amused twitch in his whiskers, Good for him.

Pyrite continued to watch as River crossed the fence. ”I won’t disturb you stray cat peace, as long as you don’t get any of my neighbors pregnant.” he said, rolling his eyes. Stray cats always seemed to be doing that.

River glanced over his shoulder, then turned gingerly around on the fence to address the housecat, "I'm not interested in that," he said, wrinkling his nose, "I'll leave that to literally anyone else." Sure, she-cats weren't that bad, but who wanted to deal with kits? Especially if the she-cat didn't want the kits and he'd have to take them? Life out on the streets was not recommended for kits, and he didn't want his irresponsibility to be the cause of the death of small lives.

Pyrite let out a small laugh. ”There’s some tom that’s been running around here and getting everyone pregnant.” It was true, by now two cats were pregnant from unknown fathers. Truth be told, this scrawny tom didn’t seem like the type to do that.

River flicked his tail in distaste, "Well, hopefully he's a better father than most strays," he said, not trying very hard to hide the contempt in his voice. He knew that whoever it was, they wouldn't give a rat's tail about the kits. At least they would be born in a home, hopefully one in which the humans didn't mind having more cats around. The streets were crowded enough as it was, without having to house a sudden influx of four to six cats on average.

Pyrite nodded. ”Yeah...there is a chance that the fathers are other house cats though. However, one can never know.” He was surprised that River hadn’t attacked him yet. The other house cats he’d met had been much more hostile.

River gave a half-interested hum, nodding in agreement. The housecat had seemed more hesitant than others to speak to him, but it didn't seem like he was too wary anymore--not that they were really talking about anything substantial. As far as conversations went, discussing other toms' mistakes weren't high on his list of interesting topics. River waited for another moment, wondering if the housecat had anything further to add.

Pyrite spun around, hearing a call from one of his owners. Looking back at River, he gave a quick nod. ”Talk soon?” he asked, turning towards his house. He enjoyed talking to the tom, he seemed much nicer than the other strays he’d met.

River blinked, hesitating for a moment before answering. He didn't particularly like the fact that the housecat expected him to talk to him soon, but at the same time, this street was both a safe and comfortable passage to his usual hunting grounds. He had a few nasty scars from territorial toms around his vaguely marked area, that weren't ever too happy about having him around.
"Alright," he finally said. Between fighting other strays and just talking to a housecat for a bit, he preferred the latter. Besides, the housecat wasn't too bad to talk to.

Pyrite smiled lightly at River, before turning around and calmly strolling back to his house, and slipped back inside the cat door, and was greeted by his human, who made a happy noise and began to pet the tom. Pyrite purred, happy to be back with his human, although he did quite enjoy talking to the stray. The nearby house cats were not very interesting.
