The Tart Key Limes

Morning was the deputy of Mapleclan but had had enough of the terrible leadership and ended up gathering a little less than half of the clan to follow him to a new area on the beach. They established themselves in a sandy cave above the waterline and named themselves the Key Limes.

Morning was still not perfect, he decided to change what is typical of a clan and makes it clear than the keys (toms) will go on patrols, and the limes (she-cats) will hunt. Everyone who joins the clan will have to hunt and show they can provide, however, if a she-cat isn't able to, she might be accepted regardless.

Morning tells Sky that she has a place in the clan as deputy if she accepts to be his mate. She reluctantly accepts, not realizing how stressful the position will be for her. Morning states that she is now in charge of all of the limes and is lightly commanded to be strong in front of them, so they look up to her. He sets Sky to lead a training patrol with the female adolescents. Beaver and Jumble had a dispute on why they’re in the new clan, as Jumble wanted to stay with her dying parents but was promised a better future by everyone else. Sky felt pressured and she stuttered that she was unfit to lead the patrol. The others looked at her oddly and resumed their debate but spoke in more hushed tones.

Morning, Spore, Rapid, and Black go on a border patrol together and they find a rogue’s pawprints. They hide in the grass on the sand dunes to set up an ambush which sends the rogue fleeing off of the territory. Black was near the back but seemed to take a lot of credit for the chase, which Morning chuckled about.

Night is kind of in his own world and loves patching wounds. He doesn’t rlly get attached to anyone, which is why he agreed to join Morning. Spore is childhood friends with Morning, but also kind of a bot and will follow almost any order. Rapid is the local f-boy that loves to tidy the camp for attention. He left because he wanted to get away from the harsh females and try to get a "new start". Black is a wildcard who is the youngest of the apprentices but “play” fights anyone he wants to when he’s feeling like it, and isn't gentle most of the time.

Black disappears for a couple of days and returns with a red nylon collar. He refuses to talk about it. Rapid escorts Night with herbs and also goes on a gathering patrol to talk to him about his vision, but night can’t make sense of it.

Again, Sky is given the training patrol with the girls and suggests practicing hunting techniques but doesn’t actually know any good tips, so they all return to camp a little irritated. Although Burnet runs off to chase beetles on the way back.

Morning, Spore, and Black go on a border patrol and come across a kittypet, and Morning accepted her with open paws even though Black was grumbling a little out of disagreement. She introduced herself as Makodaslip while Black snuck some peeks of her indigo leather collar.

Rapid curses at the fact that he wasn’t on the border patrol because he thinks Makoda is gorgeous and asks her out almost immediately, she kindly turns him down to get situated into clan life first. Makoda goes out to hunt after Morning asks her to and she uses the opportunity to shake out her nerves. Unfortunately, she missed the rabbit she was trying to catch.

All of the girls go on a training patrol but once again learn nothing. It’s been a cloudy week but not as much rain as the clan was expecting, which works out because Morning was nervous if the beachfront cave would enclose them in water.

Makoda is becoming popular with the apprentices as she has good stories. Rapid notices this and interprets that she likes the apprentices so he tries to set a good example for them to try and win over Makoda. Makoda realizes this after a while but doesn't react to it. Jumble is eavesdropping on Spore. Beaver likes Jumble slightly but would rather die than say anything. Black is being very quiet while observing Morning and his way of leading the clan.

Black is caught killing prey for fun and is lectured by Morning because he broke the warrior code. Sky definitely thinks Black should have been reprimanded more because Morning definitely let him off easy. However, she is too uneasy to confront Morning about it.

The she cats find a fox guarding a massive shark carcass and they decide to fight for it. Jumble lunges forward and grabs the fox’s throat while it was distracted, and the rest of the cats help her bring it down. They now realize that they have a fox and a shark to eat.

Spore finally catches Makoda alone and asks her to be his mate a lot more nonchalantly than Rapid, she accepts since she’s been eyeing him. Burnet wants to get to know Black better but he’s very cold every time she talks to him. Beaver is worried about why she hasn’t been made a warrior yet and talks to Jumble about it. Jumble comforts her and offers the fact that maybe they'll become apprentices at the same time. Night is listening to the apprentices complain about their training and comforts them with his steady and gentle paws.
