Gemstone Dragons!
What is a Gemstone Dragon?
Gemstone Dragons are a very special breed of dragon. When an egg is laid the parents tie a gemstone to it. When the egg hatches, the first gemstone to be sighted by the dragon is connected with it. This means that sometimes the hatchling does not become connected to the gemstone the parent's wish for it to be - it might see another gemstone embedded in the wall. This is the reason why a Gemstone Dragon has two caves - one for the eggs and the other for hoarding precious items.
As the name slightly suggests, Gemstone Dragons are natural born hoarders. Right from the very beginning they will take anything from trinkets to gold thrones. Some do it by force, others by simply pleading for it, others by trading. Whatever method they use to obtain their treasure, they have it.
These treasure hoards are not simply as decoration. Gemstone Dragons eat any precious metals. Some have been found to eat the usual food like meat or plants, but they are rare.
After linking with a gem, a Gemstone will wear it at all times. This is because smashing the gem kills the dragon it is linked to. This is the only known way to kill a Gemstone, as they have an unlimited lifespan and injuries seem to have little effect. Some dragons have naturally damaged gems - these are known for having a very negative personality. These crazy dragons cannot be killed, but can only breed three times and they don't hoard.
Some gemstones don't have gems. This is either because their gem that their parents put around their egg was completely destroyed or that they never saw a gem. These dragons act like normal Gemstones, but there is no way to kill them. However, there is always a chance that gemless gemstone dragons can link with a gem. This is when they see a gem when they are adults or hatchlings. This late connection does not affect them in anyway, it just means that they connected with a gem later than usual.
Gemstones are all unique, some having mutations and others having conformational faults. But whatever they have, each one is special!
How to adopt a Gemstone Dragon
First, you find an egg or hatchling that you like. You fill out the form the artist has provided and submit it. At the end of the contest the artist will choose a winner.
You can have as many Gemstone Dragons as you want, but please do not try and adopt every one.
Gemstones like pretty forms. Making a form look pretty makes them more inclined to choose you as a friend. They also love art of them

Your egg will hatch 1 week after adoption, and will grow the week after that.
