On a nice spring day
They wandered the fields
Finding Easter eggs galore

But there was one
A very old one
Who didn't like Easter at all

It hated new life
The sweet new grass
It hated the love in the air

The two friends
The best of friends
Went near the spot where it lays

It was a sad day
A rainy day
Easter was no longer the same

The two friends
No longer wander the hills
Instead one cries

He wastes away
Remembering the day
His best friend died

She was dragged underground
Without a single sound
And was never found again

Here's a short little fill to the prompt. Been a while since I've written a short. Hope it's alright.

Beneath The Pond
It was their first date. It was a chilly afternoon but neither of them were deterred as they strolled into the cloud shadowed park. Both of them wanted a good picnic, a simple date. It wasn’t much to ask for, right?
That was their thought on the matter as they both settled into the winter-drying grass, munching on sandwiches and talking about nothing. It was peaceful, there was the telltale sound of a dog barking in the distance, a child laughing, it was picture perfect and neither thought on the sudden goosebumps that lined their flesh. After all, it was chilly. What else could it be?
After they finished their picnic the boy gathered the girl a handful of flowers. A low humming burning in the back of their minds, a sound they thought little on as they paused to inspect the fountain nestled between some bushes. A small thing with a clean exterior and a tragically dark bottom. It looked as though no one had cleaned it in years and the girl stared longingly at it, dwelling on what could have been a picture perfect fountain.
Why was it black, murky and overgrown when everything around it was lovely and well-kept? There was a flash of something, so sudden she couldn’t scream, and silence.
In silence, a boy walked home from the park, carrying a bouquet of flowers and a picnic basket.

They were in love, husband and wife. Their fourth anniversary was that day, and he had prepared everything for the special picnic they were going to have in the woods. She picked flowers just for him in the meadow before the woods, and he told her that she was beautiful just like them. She beamed like a rose coming into bloom on the first day of spring.

Her beauty was not the only thing similar to that of a flower -- her short-lasting life wilted before him, and she fell out of his grasp. She died that day in the woods, their fourth anniversary. Collapsed on the ground with eyes wide open and a hand clutching her chest. He knelt down beside her body and grieved as the warmth from her faded. When she died, a monster emerged from the woods and licked its maw. It saw his pain at her death and hungered for it. The monster was hungry for his memories.

And the monster of memory still remains to haunt him. Day by day, the monster wove tales and lies of a living wife in love with her husband. Today, it has been a year since she died, it is their fifth anniversary, and it is the day the monster came.

He headed for the woods with a bundle of flowers in his hand and his other hand held out to someone that is not really there. The husband believes that she is still alive because the monster preys on him and whispers little things into his ears as comfort. "She is still alive," the monster rasps. "She is still with you. You are in love, husband and wife. It is your fifth anniversary today."

Slowly, as he returns to the woods with the ghost of his wife who is seemingly real and seemingly there, the monster devours his memories. He is now an empty shell of a man, staring serenely into the cloudless sky with unblinking eyes and a smile stretched across his face.
