i'm gonna be talking about some 1.1 spoilers below!
specifically towards the end of the liyue storyline!
i just want to ramble about how i ADORE tartaglia's battle theme!! the beginning is kind of peaceful, but there's that lingering fast beat in the background that makes it feel so tense, it reminds me of the traveller's relationship with childe, how on the surface its calm, sweet even, but there's that underlying tension with him being a fatui agent, where both of them know betrayal is almost inevitable. the way the music feels so much brighter towards the beginning, it's almost like the traveller hasn't quite accepted the threat tartaglia holds, still desperately clinging onto that perception of him being our friend. but then the tempo picks up and keeps getting faster and more intense, as the traveller begins to remember who he works for, and what is at stake. the music gets more and more fierce as the traveller begins to realise just how real this fight is. how in this moment, tartaglia is their enemy. the music continues to build up that intensity and tension, but during his transformation phase it becomes much slower, you can feel the emotional heart wrench in the music itself that the traveller is experiencing in fighting him. the desperation to protect liyue, whilst simultaneously the pain of fighting her friend. THEN THE 3RD PHASE.. that dark souls boss esque sound... it sounds so powerful and intimidating, it truly portrays how dangerous childe really is. THEN THE HEAVY ROCK IT TRANSFORMS INTO IN THE MIDDLE, the aggression and anger that sound holds. but then suddenly, all this tension DROPS, just for a moment. it goes silent for just a split-second, and then the following sound is much closer to the sound during his initial transformation phase. emotional, heart-wrenching. at this point, the traveller is either about to defeat, or lose to tartaglia, and the emotional turmoil is just so clear in the music!
i know nothing about music theory i just wanted to ramble somewhere about how this theme made me feel!!! i love this game's ost so much <3
