D&D actually decided on the shorter seasons. HBO wanted to extend it to 10 full seasons. So its completely the writers fault for imposing a shorter time limit on themselves.

I'm really disappointed in the last season, everything was so abrupt. Nothing happens that fast normally, deaths and killings are was last seasons not a single epsiode. :T
