Formula One (F1) is a series of races held at different venues around the wo
rld, of the fastest open-wheel, open-cabin, single-seated, four-wheeled auto
s in the world. There have been a few years when even six-wheeled cars pa
rticipated in F1.

The word ‘Formula’, included in the name, refers to a set of rules that the c
onstructors of the car, its mechanics and the drivers have to strictly follow d
uring the tenure that they are members of F1 (The Complete Beginners Guid
e to Formula 1, 2020).

Early motor racing did not have any limitations. This meant car size and pow
er were unequal, making races unequal and dangerous. After World War II ho
wever, the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) rules that set limi
ts on the size and the power of the cars. Racing was since then focused on th
e efficiency of the cars, and the abilities of the drivers.

The word ‘One’ comes from the grading FIA issues to the racing tracks, the ap
proved cars and the drivers’ licenses. The ‘One’ is also to distinguish F1 from
street car racing and also to indicate that it is the ultimate in formula racing.

Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, like so many of his counterparts, began his racing
career at a very young age in karting. In 1996, aged just six years old, C
heco finished his first season in second place overall with four victories
in his class.

That was a sign of things to come for Checo, who went on to win in Mast
er Kadets, Shifter 125cc and became the youngest driver to win a compe
tition in the Shifter 80cc class.

This prodigious talent soon caught the eye of the Escuderia Telmex scout
s and by 2004, Checo had moved up from karts to race for Telmex in the
US-based Skip Barber National Championship. Before long, he was headi
ng to Europe and Formula BMW.

He dominated the British Formula 3 Championship (National Class) by wi
nning two-thirds of his races for the T-Sport team in 2007.
His single-seater debut came in the inaug
ural Florida Winter Series , but he was so
on snapped up by Van Amersfoort to take
part in the FIA Formula 3 European Cham
pionship . At just 16, Verstappen took the
F3 championship by storm , winning his si
xth race , going on to win an incredible si
x consecutive victories in the series , plac
ing third in the overall rankings.

He joined Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2015, ma
king him the youngest Formula One driver
in history , surpassing the record of Jaime
Alguersuari by nearly two years . Verstapp
en went on to score an impressive 49 poin
ts in his debut season, taking two fourth p
laces.

As well as a famously fast father, Verstap
pen's mother Sophie was also a successful
kart driver.

Born in Hasselt, Belgium, in 1997, it wasn
’ t long before the young Verstappen hit t
he race track, and by 2003 he was karting
regularly in Genk, Belgium. In 2005, thing
s got serious and he took part in his very f
irst championship , the Belgium Champion
ship Mini (VAS), where he won all 21 races.
By 2013 , Verstappen had won just about e
verything karting had to offer, winning the
2013 World KZ championship at Varennes-sXI
ur-Allier in France.

Lewis Carl Hamilton MBE (born in Stevenage; 7
January 1985) is a British Formula One racing d
river from England, currently racing for the Mc
Laren Mercedes team and is the youngest ever
Formula One World Champion winning the title
in 2008.

At the age of ten, Lewis approached the McLar
en team principal, Ron Dennis, at the 1995 Aut
osport Awards ceremony and told him “I want
to race for you one day.” Less than three years
later, he was signed by McLaren and Mercedes-

ne driver for the Mercedes team.

Having tested with the Williams team since
2010, Bottas was promoted to a race seat for 2013. For the 2015 season
, Bottas retained his race seat at Williams, partnered by Felipe Massa. I
n 2017, he moved to Mercedes to replace retired and reigning world cha
mpion Nico Rosberg and partner Lewis Hamilton.[1] His first podium ca
me in the 2014 Austrian Grand Prix. He went on to finish 4th in the Driv
ers' Championship in 2014. He got his first pole at the 2017 Bahrain Gran
d Prix, and his first win at the Russian Grand Prix in the same year. He to
ok his first double at the 2017 Austrian Grand Prix.

The self-styled “Honey Badger” is fuzzy on the outside and feisty on the
inside. Drivers beware because behind Ricciardo’s laidback persona and
big grin is a razor-sharp racer with a bite.

A regular podium-finisher, Ricciardo has christened the steps around the
world with a dousing of Aussie culture – the ‘Shoey’ – as he quaffed cham
pagne from a soggy racing boot. Yes it’s goofy, but the trademark celebr

Lando Norris is a British racing driver born in Bristol on 13 November 1999.

As a member of the McLaren junior programme, Norris made his F1 debut
in 2019 when he earned a promotion from F2 to partner Carlos Sainz in the
team's all-new driver line-up.

Norris would enjoy a fine debut campaign, scoring 49 points to finish P11 in
