What are Quararaptors? wrote:Quararaptors are a surviving "in between" species, that somewhere down the evolutionary line got stuck between two different places in time. They are most closely related to modern birds and prehistoric raptors. They are feathered, warm blooded, and thrive in heavily forested environments and secluded mountainous regions. They lived under humanities nose, keeping out of sight and leaving no traces behind for thousands of years. Only recently discovered due to deforestation of their native lands, this elusive creature was spotted by humans for the very first time. Further studies revealed these creatures were extremely intelligent, lived in small to medium sizes packs, and could not fly, but instead climbed and glided around it's habitat.

Factoids wrote:Named Quararaptors after the Latin word 'Quae' meaning "still existing"
The average size of a full grown Quararaptor is around the size of a German Shepard.
Quararaptor hatchlings are about the size of chickens, and there are one to two hatchlings per clutch.
They are omnivores.
Due to their intelligence, they can be trained, kept at pets, or they can be used to guard property, but they are best left wild.
Their wings are used for mating and displays of aggression, and are usually brightly colored.
When startled or angry, the feathers on their heads fluff up to make them seem larger.
Mostly seen as naturally colored.
Their bones are light, similar to a bird; enabling them to move without leaving much of a footprint and giving them the ability to glide.
Extremely good climbers.
They move in packs, and are very rarely loners.

I love these so much! I haven't really been interested in adopts lately, but the design of this species is so intriguing that I'm definitely planning on trying out for the next one.

Are there any types of designs you'd like to see?

I think it'd be really cool to have a space-themed one, with the body being black or blue-gray and the undersides a more unnatural blue or even purple and little flecks that look like stars. I also really like how a lot of the tryout art is bird-themed.

Are there any animals you'd like to see a Quararaptor based on?

A wolf or lemur-themed one would probably look really cool.

Do you have any questions about Quararaptor behavior or lore?

What countries are they generally found in? How have they escaped detection so long? What do they eat? When was the first recorded appearance (as in both the first sighting and first known prehistoric "sighting")? Are their skeletons similar to dinosaurs and, if so, have any of their fossils been mistaken for dinosaur remains?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really excited to learn more about the species ^^. You don't have to answer all of them!

Thank you for checking us out! I'll be answering your questions below <3 Thank you so much for asking!

Q: What countries are they generally found in?
Quara's are generally found in Russia, Canada, Brazil, Australia and China! They have been found elsewhere as well in smaller numbers, generally due to being relocated there after being discovered and are therefore not native to other areas! They thrive in the secluded, forested regions in these countries.

Q: How have they escaped detection so long?
Quararaptors live in areas where people tend not to wander too far into, and on the rare occasion they do, there is rarely any traces of these little raptors! They are very light footed and light creatures, and don't leave footprints. Since they also travel in packs, if danger approaches there is usually a warning that they give out to let the rest of the pack know. They are very quick on their feet and they sound like birds when they make calls, which isn't too out of place in a forest as well!

Q: What do they eat?
It varies depending on their locations, but they are also omnivores so their eating habits vary! They will eat small things such as lizards, bugs, and small berries. On the larger side they will eat birds, large mammals if they are in packs such as big cats, wolves, deer, elk, foxes, or kangaroo. They pretty much eat whatever they can take down.

Q: When was the first recorded appearance (as in both the first sighting and first known prehistoric "sighting")?
The first sighting was in the early 1950's, by a group of village locals in Russia. The town was fairly small and although the townsfolk knew of their existence, word never spread far as they were extremely illusive, and became a myth of sorts until it was officially documented as the first recorded appearance due to illustrations and written descriptions.

As for the first prehistoric sighting, they were very easily confused with other raptors and the adult Quararaptor's were mistaken as juveniles of other species of raptors, as their coloration and age couldn't be differentiated. So there is no official prehistoric sighting of them or when they really originated as their own species, as it seems to have been a slow process and they can't truly tell them apart by the fossils.

Q: Are their skeletons similar to dinosaurs and, if so, have any of their fossils been mistaken for dinosaur remains?
I'll actually talk to Cuervo about this because I'd like to hear their opinion, but to me I feel as if they would have a skeletal structure more so similar to birds?

That's really interesting! I'm actually from Russia, so it's cool to see the role it plays in the Quararaptor lore. I also love how in-depth and well-thought out this species is (and it looks adorable ^^).

Do you know if there's a new adopt going up soon?
