.:Appearance:.
A large black snake. He has dark orange, almost brown,
stripes on his body which represent the dents on a
pumpkin. The edges of his ever so slightly transparent
scales are tinted orange, but do not glow. His eyes are
hollow, with black carved pupils, and a bright orange
glow comes from them. His mouth is carved like a
common mouth on a jack-o'-lantern, jagged. The
orange-brown scales on his belly are transparent, and
the orange glow can clearly be seen through them. The
colour of his paint is bright orange, like a pumpkin.
He has a hole in his chest, which has a candle inside.
It doesn't affect him and the hole is blocked off
inside. The candle shows his health, the brighter
it is the healthier he is. The carving in his chest
and mouth are yellow inside, like a real pumpkin.

.:History:.
It was a cold day, a few days before Halloween. The sun was setting over a small farm on the outskirts of a town. Mist rolled over the fertile earth, which nurtured rows and rows of crops. The young farmer who owned the place left the old house, and followed the gravel path to his pumpkin patch. They stood in an almost perfect line, against the wall of the red barn, its paint peeling from the rotting wood. The farmer knelt down and started to harvest the pumpkins, cutting them from their vines with a knife. Carefully, one by one, he carried them to the house in his weak arms, where they would sit and cure for a week.

The night before Halloween, the farmer sat in the basement of the house with his pumpkins. He felt that the darkness outside would help him. The room was dimly lit by light that came through a window under the porch. He picked up a knife, and stabbed it into a pumpkin. He could have sworn that the pumpkin just moved. The knife sliced through the pumpkin and cut the top off. He repeated this for all of the pumpkins. After this he emptied them and then began to carve them. On one of them he carves a snake's face, with the common, scary, jagged jack-o'-lantern mouth. On the others he carves patterns in the sides. His finishing touch is a bright candle in each of the pumpkins, giving them an eerie glow. Finally he ties them together in a chain. He always thought snakes were terrifying and evil.

The farmer's old car rolled up a dirt road, the engine sounding as if was going to fail. In front of him was the town hall, which looked haunted on the dark Halloween night. The town had gathered for a Halloween competition, to see who could make the scariest Halloween themed item. He carried his creation in a wooden box to his table, number 16, in the building. All around him were other creations which made him feel nervous. How could he win? After a few minutes, the mayor entered the room and everyone was silent. After a welcoming speech the mayor then examined every entry in the room. The farmer was the last one.
"Why, what is this?" He asked the farmer, looking at his dirty old clothes.
"A snake made out of jack-o'-lanterns, sir" the man replied.
"What makes it so scary?" The mayor questionned.
"I'm afraid of snakes, and I'm sure most people in this room are" he said and looked around as the other people started to murmur. Without replying, the mayor walked back to the front of the room and talked to the two other judges. They whispered to each other for a few minutes.
"The winner is table 16. Please collect your prize." Announced the mayor. The farmer stood still, in shock, as he tried to bring himself back to reality. He walked as fast as he could to the front, shook hands with the mayor and took his prize money of £1,000. The crowd applauded him.
"Now we celebrate!" Shouted the mayor over the noise. The room was abandoned as everyone went to dance and eat. A window was left open, next to the jack-o'-lanterns. The wind whistled and entered the cold room. It carried small specks of sparkling dust, the same colour as the glowing moon. They fell upon the orange snake, and seemed to disappear into its rind.

The jack-o'-lantern snake sat on the clean, freshly-painted white, front porch the next day. Next to it was an open can of orange paint. The farmer was busy painting the barn red and white. The jack-o'-lanterns seemed to move more and more as the day went on. The pumpkins started to join together, becoming life-like. But what was this? The pumpkins started to grow scales... And there sat a black snake with an orange glow. He started to slither, and caught his tail on the orange paint can. The can fell over, and covered the snake in paint which startled him. He realised it wouldn't hurt him though, and continued to casually slither across the porch. But the paint would not come off. A few minutes later he was behind the farmer, and rubbed his head against his leg. The man turned around and jumped, screamed and ran away sweating. The snake looked at the human and tilted his head curiously as he watched the man walk back to the house.

After roaming the farm for some time, the snake heard a car enter the farm. It stopped and had a conversation with the farmer about him. Footsteps got louder as the new human made their way to the snake. It was a young woman, with long red hair and light green eyes. She was shocked for a moment and couldn't believe what she saw in front of her. She picked up the snake, who didn't really care, and carried him back to her car. The snake was put in a dark box. The lid opened after a long drive. It was warm, and he was inside a house. His new owner stroked him gently as she released him into his new vivarium*, which had a Halloween theme.
"Lux" she whispered and smiled, watching the curious snake, fasinated by his glow.
