Bane was born in a prison known as the pit, it's actual and exact location is unknown but it is believed to lie somewhere in the vast barrens of Arabia. In those times there were guards at the opening of it and few prisoners were allowed to wander about the area, one of the many prisoners not allowed was Bane's mother, like all the others she remained shrouded in an endless pitch black darkness, while she had held her newborn child she could not even see his face, they say the bones of a newly born are soft like clay, and that they're shaped by the arms of the mother that holds them, but she couldn't love what she could not see, many can, but she allowed the cold and bitter fate she'd been left to taker her over, she felt as though she could only care for the child physically, her milk wasn't enough so she gave him what little food prisoners were given, but that resulted disastrous for her well-being, by the time he was a year old or so she died, as he grew older he needed more so as the months went by her meals grew smaller and smaller until malnutrition and starvation caught up with her. From his birth till her death she never held or played with him, nor ever said a single word. They usually leave unwanted children in the desert but he was able to find his way around so they figured it'd be a waste of time, being male he was allowed to go out of his cell every now and then to receive food, it was only by a miracle he didn't get trampled everytime. A week passed and one day he felt a hand on his head, but then it clenched onto his head covering, "Are you a dwarf?!" a man both questioned and exclaimed, Bane didnât understand the language at the time all he could do was react with a yelp, upon hearing the child-like noise the man had paused in a moment of shock, there were never children down here. The man knew there was no way he could survive alone, and so he took him under his wing and began teaching him how to defend himself and fight even in the total darkness conditions theyâre confined to, but he was never a father figure to Bane. He learned and grew quickly as time went on, they could only meet for around 15 minutes a day as that was the usual amount of time they had to go get their bowl of food before returning to their cells, but whatever the man could teach him within that time Bane practiced in his cell without rest.

He spent every minute of every day practicing but as he grew older such repetition became tiring that he nearly passed out so he went to the man later being told his name was âKovasâ and explained how he was tired and no longer wanted to participate in these teachings, the man was quiet for a moment before giving him a challenge to duck every punch Kovas threw, it sounded simple enough to bane and so he accepted, he did well for the first minute but then the man struck his shoulder, he whined in pain but then he struck again, he yelped more but then was struck a third time, when Bane told him to stop he was struck a fourth time on the exact same spot on his shoulder, this time Bane was quiet and he did not get stricken again, there was a long moment of silence until the man explained that if he could hear Bane he could see Bane. Then later when he was nine he was given the ultimate test, to fight while deaf. Bane ducked every strike, and blocked every move. He could do this because Kovas explained the physics of movement and Bane applied it to everything he had learned, he now can sense the slightest change in temperature and wind. He could also now defend himself agains the older prisoners when they tried to steal his meal but he could never fight them off he was far too young. About a year later he starting understanding the other prisoners and over hearing the tales of castles of mud bricks and delicious foods, but theyâd always end the story with âI miss the lightâ, not knowing what this âlightâ thing was he asked Kovas, the man told him it was beautiful and gave detail to things, he seemed just as infatuated with it as the other prisoners Bane knew this âlightâ had to be incredible as even dull and reserved Kovas seems to rave about it, through the many years ahead Bane dreamt of this light, Kovas only told him because he knew it would not distract Bane, the child continued to practice restlessly and only thought of it before he went to sleep and he only slept little, one day he would soon awaken into a man, that time soon came.
Within his first days of becoming a man, by then the staircase that went up to the mouth of the pit where destroyed and some believe it had something to do with the fact the princess and her child were going to be left here, upon hearing there was going to be a child in the pit Bane became harmlessly excited, he was the only one who had lived here without a crime, he wanted to train her and teach her the same things Kovas did, but he only knew all this from murmurs of the other prisoners. Since the perishment of the staircase had guaranteed the prisoners could not escape the guards allowed them to enter into the light of the pits opening, all the men were excited, Bane was waiting eagerly in his cell until he heard a voice call his name, until he recognized it was Kovas, âKovas? How, what are doing out of your cell theyâll kill youâ, the man simply said no then told him âno man can be taughtâ, Bane was waiting for him to continue but there was nothing more, he called out to him but there was no response, he didnât hear footsteps walking away either, just the utter silence. As the guard told them to walk further past the place where they trained their mind to receive their food bowls as a tunnel had been caved. Bane followed the crowd hearing the men farther ahead cheering, as he got closer and closer he began seeing glimmers of white. Then he saw colors, it was on the walls, and their clothes, until he finally made it into the opening he saw the light, everyone was crying out in joy, something Bane didnât understand the basis of, he looked at the sky, it was just a blanket of white there wasnât anything that gave it valor, to Bane it was just nothing to him but light.
Upon the princessâs arrived many of the prisoners began to become filled with hatred, the royal family and their unjust justice system are the reason theyâre damned to the pit, but Bane didnât understand these politics, and so overtime the prisoners attempted to kill them Bane protected the child, some thought of him to be "fallen angel", the princess only escaped by the grace of the doctor, heâs protected them numerous times, but one morning the prison had been turning into chaos with the only staff left being the doctor, all the guards had been killed as itâs become over ran by the thugs, and in that day the doctor forgot to lock her cell and the prisoners quickly took their chance to murder them, the princess did not stand a chance against so many blades, but the child had itâs protector, her mother was killed before she could look below her cell to see Bane holding her daughter in the light.
Out of his shame the doctor believed Bane at least deserved to know the name of the child given by itâs mother. Her name was Talia, and Bane would go on to teach her what Kovas once did, but unfortunately he never got the chance as the prison was becoming more unstable and unsafe by the minute, and he knew she had to make the climb. He quickly rushed her to the walls of the pit holding her as high as he could as she latched onto the bricks, the prisoners came after him too as he was seen as an enemy now assuming he supports the royal family when he wanted to protect the innocent, she was now at the second tier of the pit but before climbing another level she couldn't help but to take one last glance at her protector, who's name nor face he had never revealed to her, but the prisoners did that for him with the last and only word being, "goodbye".

When the doctor found him he already knew there was nothing he could do as he peered at what remains of his face seeing that the rest had been pummeled into the flesh, he could only do little to ease the excruciating pain giving him the same thing he gives himself, morphine, but even that only made it slightly tolerable, the trauma was so severe he was sure he'd soon die, he did everything he could even keeping Bane in the doctors cell where it was the safest. He was wrapped in bandages given doses of morphine from dawn to dusk and simply sat there motionless for months, but he was still left in constant agony
But one day he saw people descending from the mouth of the pit, he supposed they must be more prisoners but they weren't, they were saviors lead by none other than Talia's father, a group known as the "League of Shadows". They helped many of the prisoners escape but upon seeing bane one of the members went to Talias father, Ra's Al Ghul, the man knelt down before bane shaking his head lightly in pity, Bane only reminded him of the hell he left his wife to die in, and so he rejected him. But this does not stop Bane in later fulfilling Ra's Al Ghul's destiny not long after his death, it was only till then Talia could forgive him.
