I'm pretty sure I have to read it for English next year...I'm scared DXI'm incredibly disappointed that school is causing kids to dislike reading and wonderful books. The Outsiders is one of my absolute favorites; it has sympathetic characters, an engaging plot, and the fact that it was written by a sixteen year old is amazing. The school system needs to learn to motivate kids to read and not force them for a grade.
On the subject of books I don't like, I didn't enjoy Eragon or An Abundance of Katherines.

World War Z by Max Brooks, for example, is one of my favorite books and I read it for 9th grade English. The Road by Cormac McCarthy and My Bloody Life by Remundo Sanchez were some other great books I read for school.
But since we're on the topic of hated books...
Wuthering Heights for my senior English class, WEW that book sucked. I never even finished it. Also I know 1984 is supposed to be a literary masterpiece but I couldn't get past the first 50 pages ngl. Maybe I should go back and read it in a non classroom setting.

Similar case with A Clockwork Orange... though funnily enough, I devoured the heck out of 2001: A Space Odyssey despite warnings of its dryness |D (And while I couldn't get through 1984, Animal Farm was incredibly engaging and I've been meaning to give it a re-read \o/)
