It... Irritates me an awful lot...
"remember how we forgot?
remember how no one ever really died in the wars we fought?
because each gunshot came from our fingertips
and we never really kept them loaded, just in case
because each enemy was a friend and none of it was about oil, religion or land
it was all just pretend;
remember how we used to bend reality
like we were circus strong men
like our imaginations were in shape then
like we were all
ninjas trained in the deadly art of "did not"
like "i totally got you!"
"...did not"
remember how we forgot?

Hmmmm, I hate racism as much as the next person, but you must admit that our society is WORLDS better than it was before.

We used to be segregated from each other and even ENSLAVED people with different colour skin. Yes, name-calling is terrible and wrong, but is it as bad as it was 20 years ago? Heck no!

In my school we have very little racism. Yes, we all crack jokes at each other involving race, but they're not meant to be hurtful and they bond us together. My amazing Asian friends love to use the fact that they are Asian as an excuse for things XP Such as why they can't see the board and why they don't do well in English -which is a lie-

Sure, sometimes it escalates a little bit, but there are always people who tell the bullies to back off, and a bully targets everyone.

So yeah, I hate racism and think its wrong, but for me at least there is little to no racism going on in my life. That picture? Would be a great depiction of what our high school is like, hand in hand with each other, no discrimination.

I never said it was any worse than it used to be. I made no point like that. All I pointed out is how it irritates me.

Indeed, never said you were ^^
I was simply reflecting on how racism affects me, and how blessed I am to have so little of it around me.
Sorry if it seemed like I was attacking you.

I am totally against racism...its so not right and its very sad. Making fun of a race is not good. Usually it means you dont feel good about your own race or yourself. Also, what bugs me is that sometimes for example: someone is mexican yet they make fun and hate on mexicans? What? Why do that? You are mexican(in the example) or whaterver. Technicaly your saying you hate yourself and who you aree if you are against your own race...i dont get it.

I find that a valid point and agree with it. I don't see why Aboriginals, for example, call each other Nigga.

I dunno, sometimes people just like to make fun of themselves....I know I do it sometimes, not necessarily using a racial reference, but even just saying "Oh yeah, I suck at math so bad, must be because I only ever ate alphabet soup" You're just joking around, making excuses for a failing or problem. Its exactly the same, except instead of saying, "Oh yeah, no way I could be a doctor because I'm stupid" You say, "No way I can be a doctor, I'm white after all." Or something like that. Its not necessarily derogative, it just depends on how its intended.

Racial jokes, in this day and age, aren't generally meant to purposefully offend. In my opinion thats not racism, thats just an odd word choice. Here, I looked up the definition:

Racism
1.
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2.
a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3.
hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

So technically such comments said about yourself aren't really considered racism, since you aren't doing it to be superior, but simply to poke fun at yourself.

Intolerance of another race is what I'd classify as racism. But....thats just me. So long as feelings aren't being hurt I don't think it counts as racism. The instant other people start feeling like they are being judged or despised because of these comments....then its racism and must be stopped ^^
