Creed watches the clouds fall together in a thick mass that consumes the familiar sky. Wind is picking up from the East and it drowns out the faint rumble of the television inside. He glances at it through the open window, watching the reporter warning viewers of the coming storm, then redirects his disinterested gaze back to the heavens. He presses his lips into a thin line while standing and returning to his home. At once, he shuts the windows and barricades the doors before climbing to his attic and settling amongst his pile of quilts. From there he has a clear view out the top window where he is able to watch the storm forming on the horizon. There's nothing like a good storm to set the heart at ease. [ 131 ]

Story

Birch approached the cliff where they had planned to meet that night. His older sister Lurk already lay there stargazing as she awaited his arrival.

They had been wandering for nearly half a year now with no end destination or goal. Lurk was perfectly content with this life, but Birch felt like he had no purpose.

He had been leaving often to meet up with a group of Viscets. They had originally acted very hostile toward him, but after he showed interest in what they had to say they welcomed him with open arms. They planned to eliminate viscets who had powers that wouldn't join their cause. Those viscets were placed there to balance the planet, but the group believed they destroyed it. They were united by their past experiences with ‘Guardians’, either their homes destroyed or family lost.

Birch constantly brought up the idea of joining them to Lurk, but she just didn't care at all. She blew off the idea like it was crazy and they were perfectly fine how they were. The group demanded he get a solid answer that night.

"Lurk?" The sound of the waves below echoed up the steep rocky ledge drowning his voice. "You're finally here!" Lurk sprang to her feet and swiftly turned to face him, "Why did we have to meet here today?" Branch sat at the edge of the cliff and Lurk settled down next to him. He placed a paw on her shoulder.

"Yes or no?"
"What?"
"Will you join them with me?"
"Those viscets? Why would you want join a group who would make you kill? We are perfectly fine how we are now."
"No?"
"No."

Birch used the paw he had resting on his sister to shove her over the edge of the cliff into the sea.
