No, it's definitely not mandatory.
It doesn't erase the old one though if you get a line conversion, it's just like getting an extra piece of art. You get to keep both.
However, if you don't want your viscet(s) on the new lines at all, that's perfectly fine.

UGGGGH. With the limit on viscets being 10, I can't adopt anymore, as I want a few of my own viscets to start families, which means I have to have slots open. X( I love a LOT of the new viscets, though. Pity I can't try out for them.

Erm I know your pain! There are so many awesome Viscets to adopt, and I have to choose wisely, and save a slot for the Halloween adopt!
Hopefully the limit would change one day! <3

I definitely intend on increasing it one day; but for now, only like 3-4 people have more than 5, and the majority of those in the archives have like 1-2 lel. But ya'll have shown me that you're definitely more than capable of being great owners to plenty of OCs, and it'll definitely increase... some day.
