Oekaki Rules and Information

All rules regarding forum conduct, child-friendly content, and art use/creation also apply to the Oekaki, but there are also some specific rules that apply only to the Oekaki forums.

Oekaki Rules

Keep comments polite, helpful, and relevant to the artwork. Do not start discussions or debates. Critique is allowed if requested by the artist but insults are not welcome.
Make an effort to post your drawing in the correct board. Continued intentional misuse of the forum categories may result in disciplinary action. You can view descriptions of what each board is for in the forum index.
Don't spam the Oekaki. Your drawing should show intention and a modest amount of effort. We do not allow random scribbles, simple shapes, or empty/solid color canvases, nor should you post advertisements for trades, streams, or other threads. Covered drawings must still follow the oekaki rules and have art visible, even if they are WIPs.
Don't create Oekaki topics just to share art you've created elsewhere. Art drawn in another program should be posted in the appropriate board (example: non-Oekaki adoptable characters go in User-made Adoptables).
Don't make Oekaki drawings with just words or puzzles written on them. The Oekaki is for sharing artwork, not for displaying a written message or playing a forum game.
If using an editable you must follow the artist's rules. This may include leaving a signature/watermark layer on the final image, or may prevent you from selling colored-in versions as adoptables.
Don't post blank canvases in the contests board. Contests may be posted there only if you provide a recognizable lineart or relevant background for contestants to use in their entries. If you don't need people to edit something in particular, go to the Regular Art Competitions Board to create your topic. You can still make a rule that your contestants make their entries in the Oekaki boards if you prefer it that way. For more specific rules about contests please view this thread.
Specific rules apply to the the Adoptable boards on the Oekaki:
- The Oekaki is for making and sharing art in the Oekaki program. If you’d like to use another program to create your adoptables, please post them in user-made adopts or character design shops. “Cover adoptables” are not permitted, except for “milestone” adoptables in which case the cover must still follow Oekaki rules.
- You may sell Oekaki art/adoptables for CS pets/items/C$, allowed offsite currency, and dA points/real currency. Keep in mind that CS staff are unable to assist with transactions gone wrong involving other site currency or real currency.
  - Any real currency discussion must occur offsite; please link to where you can be contacted. Do not discuss real currency transactions on CS.
- Post your adoptables in the correct board. If you want to create just a few adopts, use the Adoptables 1: Independent/One-Off board. If you want to create a closed species, community, and intend to make many adoptables, use the Adoptables 2: Closed Species/Communities board.
- Follow the rules outlined by the adopt creator(s). Many species owners have their own rules that you must follow in order to successfully participate in their species, so be sure to read their rules before posting. CS staff may enforce a thread owner’s rules if necessary. Note that species rules may not circumvent our official site rules.
- All Adoptable Oekaki submissions must be judged no later than 1 month after their end date. Staff may intervene if the user fails to select a winner after 1 month. Failure to judge a contest after being reminded may result in a board warning.
- Users are bound to the species rules published at the time that the user receives the adopt. If a species owner adds a new rule, they cannot punish players for breaking the rule before it was added. This includes revoking or rehoming adopts. Updated adoptable rules apply only to adopts made after the rule was published.
- Paid-entry raffles are not permitted. You may not charge users for the chance to win something.
- Competitions with entries requiring artistic/creative effort must end with a winner. The promised prize (in this case the character design) must be awarded at the end of the contest to an entrant, so be sure you want to give the character away. You may only change your mind if there are no forms that meet the competition requirement.
- If you want to transfer your species to another player, then you will need to notify CS staff beforehand. More information on transferring thread ownership can be found here.

ferraen face paint ideas

second part (kinda) to this post!. brainstorming what the ferraen's face paint might look like.

because of the basis of their spirituality being duality/believing that there are two souls in every body, one "animalistic" and the other "civilized" (for lack of better terms), the facepaint they'd wear would be asymmetrical, with different patterns and motifs for each side of the face. borrowing a face from a ferraen from myth and legend (top row), or from one of the gods (bottom row), is the most common (usually chosen for characteristics you want to embody on your journey), but one can also just make up their own face. borrowing a face from someone still living is taboo, or at the very least incredibly impolite (imagine getting into trouble while looking like someone else, and having them take all the blame for it !)

since clays (particularly iron-based) are incredibly common on enurian, facepaintings would most commonly be ochre red to off-white. however, theoretically any color is possible (though for some of the harder to acquire ones, carrying the paint on you and ensuring you have enough for a journey would be necessary). a light and a dark color are most traditional, but i imagine some might get real silly with it.

there will likely be regional specific ones later as well 👍 (only being allowed to borrow faces from creatures you've killed? letting loved ones make a new face for you?? many to think about)

also adding; whiskers and ears wouldn't be painted on, since they're constantly moving and paint there would flake off easier. and paint there would probably be uncomfortable.

i love chicken smoothie :) i think about how much cs has helped me often, and it's something that's really opened my eyes to how much this site has changed me for the better. when i found cs, i was a very sheltered person. my parents didn't let me have any social media (like pinterest, instagram, etc.) so i was confined to browser-based games even though my computer was never checked. i was just too scared to stray from kids platforms, y'know?

anyway. the kindness and warmth from the cs community is genuinely unparalleled. the site is easy to navigate and it introduced me to the world of digital artwork, which is something i've spent thousands of hours doing at this point. i've made so many amazing friends and gotten SO much comfort from this site. i was in a very, very dark place when i first joined (you can see from my old points how insecure i was LOL) but the safety of the site was like the perfect place to foster my personality. i honed the way i talk to people on here before replicating it in real life and have grown to become quite the chatterbox both irl and online lol. cs allowed me to feel like a silly little girl again when i was never really able to when i was younger. i LOVE chicken smoothie. it has so many niches, and i've found mine. i love the equine community on here. the artists, the adopters, the art fanatics, have all been so lovely. i've adopted plenty of gorgeous characters which bring me an indescribable amount of comfort to look at, draw, and write for. i really love chicken smoothie and everything it's exposed me to. :)

my darling beloved gave me some lore ideas for the enurian critters so!

when traveling into another biome/region of enurian, ferraen will often paint their faces for the first few months of staying there. though the modern interpretation of this ritual is to obscure one's face from predators and to appear more threatening, as well as a sort of good luck charm, it's likely a holdover from ancient times and a practice developed from whatever liminal god may have existed in the distant past.

here, signalfire displays motifs from brushfire, the first firemaker, on one side of their face, and iconography from helix of a compass on the other.

By far Pearl is gonna be my most developed character, this is a WIP showing one of the biggest events in Pearls life - Ill put the info down below in a little bit

-Back Story-
Hatched into the world alone without a pod or another Sea Serpent to call a friend, Pearl oftentimes could be found in the reefs just off shore. Which in turn meant she ran into sailors a lot. But Pearl never really liked humans due to their greed, and their lack of ability to be open to something different which often caused conflicts.
So she avoided interacting with them, if she ran into a ship or someone on the shore she wouldn’t breach the waters surface. But one day after a horrible storm that Pearl had gotten caught in she was washed up on the shore. But to Pearls dislike the being that found her was a young human girl, no older than 19. While Pearl wouldn’t let her get close the human persisted. Pearl eventually gave in allowing for the girl to treat the cuts and scrapes she had gotten in the storm. Over time they grew close, the girl who Pearl came to know as Isabelle would often times spend hours if not days with Pearl. The only human Pearl ever trusted, and would ever trust.
They’d spend days in the water or fishing, letting Isabelle to hang onto Pearls back as they went for swims. But one day Isabelle was accused of being a witch able to communicate with sea serpents (Aka Pearl), when she told Pearl Pearl became very protective of Isabelle. Doing everything she could to keep other humans away from her in any way she could. But it wouldn’t work forever. One day when Pearl was expecting Isabelle she waited at the shore for her, but she never came. This worried Pearl so despite her fear she came a shore, slithering across the land in search of her human friend. But what she found she was not prepared for.
Isabelle had been killed, the church had taken their accusing to far and it had lead to her death.
It broke Pearl down to her core, it destroyed any trust and love she had for humans. After Isabelle's death if she saw a boat Pearl would sink it. In her eyes it was revenge and a lesson. To not go blindly blaming, or killing since everyone has friends or family out there who will hurt and mourn the loss of their life. But Pearl would not sink any boat she saw that had a young woman aboard, as it reminded her of Isabelle, and wanted to honor Isabelle and the kindness she showed her. Pearl nowadays lurkers in the depths of the cove she calls home visiting the beach her and Isabelle had first met on every anniversary of her death and rarely visit's the reef anymore.

i'm so, so excited for the end of school this month. it's coming in maybe 2 or 3 weeks, and, even though it's gonna be SUPER crunchy with all of my owed work, i really need summer to come. it'll definitely be bittersweet as all of my friends will be going to their home countries, but i'm eager to take this time to myself. i'm also very excited because my school often takes us to the beach a few times to go swimming - i missed out yesterday because wonderland's waterpark was closed and i spent this WHOLE week stressing over buying a bathing suit. so that was a total bust xD but i'm very excited to test it out and show my friends. i love swimming!!
