These are pretty uncommon wolves- there are about 4,500 to 2,200 maned wolves in the world. They live in South America only, in the countries Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Paraguay, and Bolivia. They thrive mostly on small rodents and chickens.
These wolves resemble the red fox, with their red fur, ear shape, and the shape of their face. The maned wolf's nickname is "Stilt-legged fox" because of their very long legs and their fox-like features. This breed of wolf actually resembles many dog-like critters: the wolf, the red fox, the African hunting dog, and the hyena.
Similar to other breeds of wolves, the maned wolf lives and hunts in packs of about 6 to 10 other maned wolves.
