I'd probably prefer them to be opposite genders, just because that's what I'm most comfortable/familiar with. And I initially thought of mine as a stallion, so I don't mind him being male^^

Also, would it be okay if I colored in the rest of him on a different base? I'm asking in case I decide I want a full ref at some point.

Yup, that would be fine. You could do couple art of them too, if you want. The only other white on my girl would be socks (white on the legs and it only goes up to below the knees. If white goes over the knees that’s called stockings,)
