Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (shortened to hEDS) is a condition effecting my joints primarily. They're too 'elastic', meaning I suffer frequent dislocations of all joints on my body - my ribs, fingers, knees, and even jaw can and do randomly come out of place. It causes chronic pain and dependency on mobility aids like my walker and cane to get around, and as a young adult, that was hard to come to terms with once I reached that point.
I'm still an artist and writer, though a lot of pillows, warm drinks, and medicines are used to keep me comfortable during those hobbies. Cheers to disability pride month!
Fun fact: hEDS is one of thirteen variants of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, all effecting different parts of the body, but connected through the defining trait of connective tissue fragility! Other variants effect eyes, organs, even teeth!
