because oekaki has become my diary of sorts lol...or at least a place to remember some of the animals i've worked with!

this one we'll call 'Old Man', because as his graying hairs suggest, he was indeed an old man. not that he'd ever let it stop him lol. talk about a young dog trapped in an old dog's body! this guy was a favorite among staff and volunteers, not just because of his silky hound ears, but also because of his silky smooth (and incredibly annoying) hound bark! throughout his lengthy stay at the shelter, there was never a time of peace and quiet. thankfully, you get used to that pretty quickly in shelter work haha

Old Man was not just a good boy, he was a great one! yes, he pulled to the point of needing a harness. and yes, he had some choice opinions about the other dogs in our shelter. but at his age, he was allowed to have an opinion or two. and outside of his kennel, he was a superstar! gentle-natured and supremely smart, Old Man loved his long walks- especially when he could put that hound nose to work. the only downside? having to stare into those puppy-dog eyes when putting him back into his kennel. thankfully, Old Man forgave easily!

Old Man ended up getting adopted by a friend of one of our volunteers. he actually ended up going to a home with other hounds (shocker) but surprisingly took to them right away! goes to show that in-shelter behavior doesn't always reflect out-of-shelter behavior! i was so overjoyed to see him walk out to his new home, and i wasn't the only one! he got nothing short of a standing ovation when he left, and it was well deserved. it's awesome to know that he'll be spending the rest of his golden years in a nice home with tons of yard to explore and some fellow hounds to sing with c:
