Anxiety is a vulture
Circling above me
On Wings built from feathers
of what ifs
And certain inevitabilities
Anxiety is a whisper just inside my ear
Thinking for my friends
And eavesdropping on family
Repeating what they said
She sits beside me late at night
And when I start
To fall asleep
She settles on my chest
Daring me to breathe
She fills my head with lies
I dare not disprove
Poem by me
Circling above me
On Wings built from feathers
of what ifs
And certain inevitabilities
Anxiety is a whisper just inside my ear
Thinking for my friends
And eavesdropping on family
Repeating what they said
She sits beside me late at night
And when I start
To fall asleep
She settles on my chest
Daring me to breathe
She fills my head with lies
I dare not disprove
