Stay on the same layer as your base color and choose a darker shade. Note the places that need shading, not highlighting, by putting a line there. Now make another layer above this layer but below the sketches and draw a black shape for the eye.

Can you please not make a new oekaki for every stage of your tutorial. Please save each stage after you save it to your pc and upload it to a host (photobucket, tinypic, imageshack, etc), then stick all the images on the thread along with what would be your final image.

This will save you having a distasteful looking gallery of half done images and your viewers/learners a lot of time commenting on all the stage threads, bumping them (some perhaps asking when it will be done because they don't realise) when they can ask you questions on one thread. I have left this newest image and the first image open in case you need to use those to complete your tutorial.
