miðalda 6 #105 Descendent House Ratatosk

Postby crumpled wings » Sun Jul 26, 2020 3:21 pm

The miðalda eight are all descendants of some of the fiercest and most courageous warhorses that ever graced hoof across the great expanse of Iceland. They have such high potential in their blood and quick thinking, intelligent, sharp minds that they refuse to be harbored unto their true master comes forward. Do you think you hold the value to be chosen by one of the miðalda? These descendants have been honored with pieces of armor worn by their great ancestors but are also adorned with a special uniqueness. They can excel at any discipline you chose, but just know that these descendants are a force to be reckoned with.

-miðalda horses cannot be bred to one another.
-They cannot pass on armor to their offspring but they can be called half/quarter descendants
-An icelandic horse name will give you a better shot at winning.
-You may try out for all the miðalda but you could only be chosen to be one steed's partner.

The day is here! The miðalda tolts have finally all appeared, and hope to grace everyone with their presence. These brave steeds are weary from their long travels, nothing a few days rest won't fix. But first, a feast! Time to dine, dance, celebrate and regale all within earshot with fantastical tales from distant lands!

To have a chance to win one of these tolts, complete at least the supplied form, including a story from the tolt's travel. Extras are encouraged, decorate those forms! Information on the houses can be used to supply ideas, but please be original!

Name: Eydis - The Teacher
Name Meaning: A Goddess of good fortune - Icelandic

Gender: mare
Halter Color: something regal
Personality: Compassionate, motherly,
Soft disposition, strong, quite, follower

Fantastic Tale:

Those you know, do.
Those that understand, teach.

-Aristotle

Edyis is a soft natured Tolter. She didn’t have the best of times growing up as a foal. Her father was drafted to the war unwillingly and was sadly killed in the line of fire. As for her mother she lasted only so long before a horrible disease claimed her life a few short years later. The mare had no other family; no siblings, aunts, uncles. She had no one once her parents had passed.

Due to the laws about orphans, edyis was passed into the orphanage’s hands until she became of age. Though one day the royal family had made a super special visit to adopt one of the orphans to live amongst their help. It was more for the royal children to have a friend unfortunately. But no one actually told the real reason.

When they had strolled through looking at all the eager young faces, one in particular stuck out to the royal family. Edyis was the perfect match to add to their home. A quite foal with no once of rambunctiousness to her eyes. A quick agreement was made and she was quickly and swiftly escorted to the castle. Not many introductions were made between her and the royal family. She only really knew of the foals her age in which she was ‘hired’ to play and interact with.

Luckily though she was able to sit in within their teaching and training lessons to learn along side them. She grew from filly to mare learning to be humble and smart unlike her counter part horses. They learned to be nasty and cruel. Have no meaning for anything but themselves. Of course when the time came, the king had noticed just how opposite the foals had grew. He hated the fact they were so opposite. That the castle walls spoke of how mean and cruel his foals were compared to the help. This infuriated the king. Help becoming more worthy then a a royal child!?

The king sat atop this for a very long time before finally making a decision. He had heard of recent attacks on a few nearby kingdoms. They were needing help to rebuild and prosper. The king knew if ever there was a time to pass a problem on. It was now. He called a court meeting that day. Brought up how the bordering kingdoms were asking for all kinds of supplies. One of being a new teacher. He quickly made the decision without any questions and practically shove the mare out the gates himself.

In those moments Edyis knew just how lucky she had actually been with being chosen for fhe kingdom and getting go experience what she had. If it had not been for the crabby old king to send her on. She would not be able to go on the conquest to find out who she really was and how she was.

    Name: Spjalla
    Name Meaning: Icelandic for 'chat'
    Gender: Mare
    Halter Color: Matching the tack
Personality: She's a total chatterbox and the opposite of a vault of secrets. She loves watching others get frustrated and starting arguments. One thing she swears by is that she never tells a lie. Which is true, so you better watch what you say in her presence, it'll end up travelling along the grapevine called Spjalla.
    Fantastic Tale:

[done in the pov of the tolt as a human knight in my personal tolt-universe]

Faleron said it was always the last step to becoming a fully-fledged knight. To look out over the landscape where the dragon had burned down an entire army. To look at the destruction and see the sacrifices you may have to make. It was a sobering sight. On the way back they were travelling as a group but after a few too many nights of her spreading whispers, they told her she could make her way back on her own. The insult. Spjalla let them go with chin raised and turned towards the long way home. The second path twisted and turned, cutting through small little towns and villages that had grown around the road. Merchants hawking goods at every corner, she knew she could get all the supplies she needed, maybe even find a horse and beat the others back.

    ---

Everyone in the main hall jumps as the doors are flung open with a bang. There stands a hooded figure dirty and wet from the storm fuming. She stalks through the hall letting that massive doors be closed by attendants and she takes off her bright yellow cloak and throws it over a chair near the fire to dry. Then Spjalla turns to glare at the others and warms herself by the flames.

"You all knew there was going to be a storm didn't you?" the mix of amused and guilty faces tells her all she needs to know. "Well, that is the last time I travel with you lot."

Someone in the group asks, "So how did that go?"

She sighs and moves to sit at the table and steal food off various plates. "Well... at the first town I managed to find a cheap horse to take some time off my travel. Got some supplies since I was travelling alone and you know food for the horse."

The others sit back and get comfortable as she pauses to fit as much food as she can in her mouth. She chews quickly and washes it down with whatever drink was at the table. Wrinkling her nose up at the taste of wine but continuing anyways. "So it was going well until I made it past the third town and the horse started limping something horrendous. So I sold it to a stable there, and wouldn't you know the animal stopped limping when the man took it away? I think it's a scam they've got running over there, trained the horse to act injured so I'd sell it for cheaper than I bought it at the next stable I came across."

Looks are exchanged around the table for her theory, it sounds a little far-fetched to the others but they know it's best to let her ramble on. "So now I'm going on foot with almost no coin left 2 days into this journey, I already had to start rationing since I bought food for a short journey on horseback, not to walk it all. There were no towns for a whole 3 days and the next settlement was abandoned....Except for the freaking bear that had moved into the church. I had stopped to check and see if any townsfolk were there and instead lost my entire satchel just so I could escape. There was no way I was outrunning that thing after days of walking and fighting a bear with a shortsword is stupid."

There are a few chuckles from the group as a whole. She continues, "I got away from the bear and I know you won't believe me but I swear I saw a dragon flying overhead. I cut through the forest after that, I'd rather face another bear than an overgrown lizard that is magic and can also fly. Don't laugh at me! You know I don't tell lies."

"We believe that you think you saw a dragon but just don't believe it actually was a dragon." one of the ladies adds.

"Well I'm telling you it was, but anyway, after a few more days of travel and dodging wildlife at night I stumbled upon a strange crew. All in black I think they might have been criminals. Surprisingly helpful though, one of them pointed me in the right direction after they let me sit at their fire and have some food. It was quite a relief. I think they were triplets? Though that's rare outside of nobility so maybe not." she takes another gulp of wine to wash down the next few bites, "God, that is truly terrible wine. The game track they put me on led me all the way back to the main road. Luckily it was just as a wagon was going past so I jumped on the back for a good while. The old lady in the back even read my fortune. She said her bones were the knuckle bones of a hatchling dragon, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference. She read my fortune and kicked me out!"

"What was your fortune?" someone asks, "It must have been bad for her to give you the boot."

"Nope, can't tell you. She said it was bad luck to share it and I don't want to make it worse than she made it sound. I think she may have cursed me just for sitting in her cart because the second I got off the storm rolled in off the coast and I've been getting soaked for those last 2 days of travel. The number of times I had to scramble up mudslides was horrendous, worse than the early training days of running through the muck. But I'm here now finally, and I hope you all know I will pay this back in kind. If I get sick I'm sneezing on all of your pillows."

Some laugh and others grimace at her remark, but they are glad to have her back. For now. Surely she'll start sharing the gossip as soon as she's gotten a good night of sleep.
