He leaned on his heels as he sheepishly looked up at her.
She wrung her hands trying to think of the words to say. She liked him, not just in a hey-you're-a-great-friend way but in a maybe-I-might-love-him way. He was sweet, kind, thoughtful and the best person she had ever known, but how to get out the words she so badly wanted to say?
"Vega, I—"
"I love you!" She blurted out, leaving Elco in a surprised daze. I messed up, he doesn't feel the same. He shouldn't feel the same. I'm not— Her worried stream of thoughts was interrupted as he pulled her into a tight embrace. His words began to come out faster than her thoughts had.
"I have been trying to say that for so long. I had feelings for you since the day you came to the base and I thought they would go away after a bit but they just kept growing until I could barely function when seeing you. I've wanted to tell you every day—" She hugged him back and his words faded into the background as she was enveloped by the smell of his clothes, the warmth of his chest, and his arms wrapped around her. He trailed off as they held each other. "I love you so much."
