"It's the one red rose the soldier knows,
It's the work of the Master's hand;
Mid the War's great curse, Stands the Red Cross Nurse,
She's the rose of "No Man's Land"
A Red Cross Nurse, but I drew her in a sepia color scheme instead of my usual black-and-white, and I also wanted to play around with the tools to make a scratchy photo effect. The volunteer nurses were some of the many unsung heroes of the First World War, and in honor of Women's History Month I decided that now would be a good time to make this drawing.
The both the drawing's title and the lyrics in the beginning of the post are from the song titled "The Rose of No Man's Land", by Jack Caddigan (at least, the English version). This is my favourite recording of the song.
