Why do I keep making things so small? I had enough room to make them bigger, hope its still good enough to count for the S6 prompt
Edvin was hungry. He always seemed to be lately, his parents telling him it was because he was growing. His parents hardly ever stopped to hunt though. Instead the small family always seemed to be plodding onwards, resting fitfully, always on the watch. For what Edvin wasn't quite sure, but it seemed good they hadn't found it. At first it had made him scared, his parents constant paranoia but after months of it it just got tiring.
They had gone great places on their trek, giant caves filled with sparkling dew drops and gems, near murky lakes filled with crocodiles, across scorching sands, it seemed by now they should've crossed half the world.
His feet were sore, he was hungry, and he was completely bored out of his mind. So, he just wandered a different direction. The sea was one of his favourite places so he listened for the nearest one.
It was quite fun, he decided when he could go his own pace and to his own places. Everything was suddenly a lot more interesting when he could stop and smell and look at everything. The waves were cool on his tired paws and the smell of flowers lured him on.
Something’s colors clashed with the flowers though, the purple not suiting the orange, and the shade of green clashing with the yellow flowers. Eyes opened, green and orange making Edvin take a step back. The something in the flowers wasn't a something, rather they were a someone.
The other cub got up, stretched lazily and yawned. They looked Edvin over and smiled a little. Edvin smiled back, reassured. His parents had warned him about strangers but surely that did not apply to other cubs. Edvin hadnt had anyone else to talk to for ages.
“I haven't seen you around before.” The cub remarked. “Are you coming to join Mystic Isle pride?”
“Uh…” Edvin replied, thinking of the way his parents freaked out at the mention of joining another pride. He shook his head. “Probably not.” He paused looking thoughtful “Whats an isle?
“It's a small island.” The orange cub replied. “What's your name? Im Jovono.”
“Im Edvin.” Edvin replied. “Why were you sleeping in flowers without anyone watching over you?” Jovano smirked a little.
“Why not?” He sniffed at one of the gold flowers and ate it. “I felt like it.”
“Eww did you just eat that flower?”
“Yep, do you want one?” Edvin went to addamently refuse before pausing. Why not? He nodded a little and Jovano passed him one. He gently put it on his tongue, before quickly stuffing it in his mouth when he tasted it. It was delicious. He accidentally started to purr. Jovano cracked up laughing, actually rolling on his back. Edvin blushed a little before batting Jovono with a paw to get him to stop cackling.
When he did, Jovano paused and Edvin worried he had overstepped, but Jovanos expression quickly broke.
“Oh you want to play it like that do you?” He asked darkly, but the grin on his face and his swaying hind quarters gave him away. Edvin hadn't played in so long, he grinned in return, his tail straight up in the air.
“Oh yeah I do.” He challenged back before leaping on the others back.
They played for ages, rolling around in the flowers and giggling about everything. Edvin tricked Jovano into stalking a stink bug and Jovano beat him in a race. It seemed too soon that his parents came roaring over the hill and he was lead away.
Edvin couldn't help but turn back though, to look at his new best friend sitting on the rock they'd designated as a throne.
“Bye bye Jovano, I hope Ill see you again soon.”
“Bye Edvin,” He paused, looking solemn at their parting, but smiling as he saw how dust covered Edvin still was. “You can call me Joe, next time we meet.” Edvin grinned a little as he skipped after his mother. Joe was a much easier name to say then Jovano.
