Tried a few different things, not really happy with the result

why do the eyes look like that??

please if you're seeing this, how can I make the eyes look less horrifying??

Try using a reference picture

Also, cat eyes are not ovals that are even all around

Cat eyes have ovals that droop more at the bottom of the eyes
And the top of the eyes slant inward some towards the nose, not downward to the cheeks slightly like you have

However like humans, cats too can have unique shaped eyes that are different varying by the type of cats and shapes of their faces.

If you want a more cartoony style, then you can make up your own unique eye shapes!

EDIT: Cat pupils are not round. They are only round when they get bigger in bright light or see something of interest,

Edit2: Make them bigger too. Cats have unusual big eyes for their small heads. This makes their vision supernatural

This was already said, but never be afraid to use some reference! And some shine in the eyes couldn't hurt. Keep at it!
