Hekunds

Postby Zeneka » Mon Sep 23, 2019 2:47 pm

    General

A Hekund (hek-oond) is an intelligent canine-like creature that lives in a Pack and forms close bonds with its Packmates. Hekunds have four pupil-less eyes and four tusk-like fangs that protrude out from the lower jaw. Of their four eyes, the larger eyes see like human eyes see, while the smaller ones see heat signatures. They may have any number of variations of horns, ears, and tails (most of which are prehensile), and sometimes have other mutations. They normally have short, dense fur, and the long haired variety is a rare mutation. While not always the case, Hekunds usually have more natural base colors to their coats, with markings and accents of any color. They are omnivorous. While they are mammal-like in appearance, they are closer to something between a mammal and a reptile. They are far better at regulating their temperatures than reptiles, but they still tend to slow down in cold climates, and even the long haired variety that settles in such areas tend to hibernate during the winter, while those in warmer climates do not hibernate at all. Hekunds are excellent swimmers and some of the most water adapted Hekunds are even capable of holding their breath for up to 30 minutes at a time.

    Breeding

Hekunds do not have separate physical genders (having the capability to either father or mother children in whatever capacity they desire) and any two Hekunds may breed and produce offspring, regardless of how the individual might identify themselves. Pups in the same litter may even have different sires in the case of polyamorous relationships. Hekunds lay eggs a short time after breeding, in clutches of 2-4, and the parents take turns incubating them until the pups hatch. After hatching, the pups are able to eat solid food immediately and do not nurse.

    Social Habits

Hekunds are highly social creatures and are rarely without a Pack for long. Packs are always led by one Alpha, who has a second in command called a Beta. Different Packs may develop other positions for its members depending on their territory and culture, but they always have at least one or two dedicated Healers as well. Packs never number more than 30 members, and when the Pack is getting close to that number, young adult members are often encouraged to leave the Pack to find or form a new one. Hekund Packs may form alliances, particularly if a Pack was formed by younger members from an older Pack, or they may become enemies and fight over territory and resources. When Packs are allied, interbreeding between the Packs is often encouraged to bring new blood into the Pack.

    Setting

Hekunds live on a future dystopian Earth-like world. Through some combination of war and climate change, the world changed drastically and the human population was reduced dramatically. While there are still humans, they have reverted back to more of a hunter/gatherer society in general. Some Hekunds live among humans peacefully and they help each other, while others are hostile toward humans because the humans hunt them. The earth is, in general, much warmer than in modern times. Sea levels are higher as well and there is less land to live on, with only one continent above sea level. Hekund Packs are highly adaptable and are found all over the world, from deserts, to mountains, to forests, to coastlines, and even in the arctic.

Staff, Rules, Warnings & Bans

Postby Zeneka » Mon Sep 23, 2019 2:47 pm

    Rules

    • Follow all CS rules in everything related to Hekunds.
    • Be respectful in all things, please. Do not guilt trip people if you lose a competition and do not harass staff/artists about judging.
    • Do not change Hekund designs. You may add accessories.
    • You will not be added to the original images when you win Hekunds.
    • Everyone gets one free Semi Custom, known as a Founder, so that you may begin play right away and do not have to wait to win a Hekund. See the Custom Thread to claim yours.
    • Currently, Packs can only consist of your own Hekunds, but jointly owned Packs will be added at a later date with their own special rules.
    • Each Pack may only have up to 30 members at a time and cannot be further expanded. However, after performing all the Level 5 tasks, you may then start over at Level 0 and form a second Pack, going through all the levels again to expand that Pack. In this manner, you may have as many Packs as you like.
    • Hekunds that you adopt or get as customs may not be a direct, blood related parent or child of any other Hekund (this relationship can only be gained through breeding), but they MAY be direct siblings, more distant relations like cousins, and of course they may be adopted children.
    • You must have a thread/website to keep track of each of your Packs.
    • If you are banned from CS/Hekunds, we reserve the right to re-adopt out your Hekunds. We have a three strike system when it comes to bannings. Your first rule broken gets you a warning, then each consecutive rule break gets you a strike. Once you have 3 strikes, you will be banned indefinitely. Warnings and strikes disappear after 6 months. However, if the offense is big enough, you may not receive a warning and immediately get any number of strikes or a possible immediate ban, depending upon the situation, at the staff's discretion.
    • Hekunds cannot be sold in any capacity.
    • Hekunds may be gifted or traded for other Hekunds after being owned for a minimum of 3 months. After being traded/gifted, a Hekund cannot be traded/gifted again for a minimum of 3 months.
    • Rules are subject to change at any point in the future, at which point an announcement of the change will be made so everyone is aware of it.
    • After a Hekund has been owned by the same person for at least one year, it may be retired. To retire a Hekund, PM Wolphee with the link to the Hekund you wish to retire, as well as what you plan to do with the retired Hekund (consider it an elder, dead, and/or transfer it).
      • A retired Hekund does not take up a slot in a Pack, cannot hold a rank in a Pack, and cannot breed. It can only be used for leveling or Moni earning tasks if another, non-retired Hekund is the focus of the task.
      • A retired Hekund can be considered an elder or something similiar in the Pack and frees up space in the Pack for new Hekunds.
      • A retired Hekund can be considered dead if you wish and may still appear as an ancestor if your Pack has some sort of spiritual leader/shaman type Rank.
      • A retired Hekund that is considered dead may be transferred to be a non-Hekund character if the owner wishes to remove them from their Pack completely but still use the character elsewhere. Retired Hekunds that are transferred as non-Hekund characters may be retained even in the case of a user being banned from CS/Hekunds.

    Staff/Artist Rules

    FT Artists
Full Time Artists have greater activity expectations on them than PT Artists or Guest Artists, but they also have more freedom when it comes to the adopts they can create. The FT Artist position is for people who have the time to devote to actively designing for the species, who mainly want to focus on creating adoptables, but can also take on breeding tickets and custom orders on occasion.
    • Must be able to create adopts on the oekaki. PSD lines will not be provided.
    • May create milestone adopts. Milestone adopts have no limits on their expressed or recessive Gene rarities. Milestone adopts will happen at our 25th, 50th, 75th, and 100th adopts, and every 50 adopts after.
    • Must create at least 1 adopt a week (though preferably more than 4 a month). If you are having IRL issues and cannot attain this, please PM Wolphee. I do not need the details, just let me know something is going on and you will be on a partial or full hiatus, and try to give me an estimate of how much time you might need. If the period of time is longer than two months, you will be changed to a PT Artist until such time as you think you can resume your FT Artist duties.
    • Must create 3 adopts with only Common expressed Genes for every 1 adopt with Uncommon expressed Genes.
    • Every 10th adopt will be a Rare adopt, meaning it will have 1 Rare expressed Gene. Artists will be put on a scheduled rotation for their turn to make these adopts and may not make Rare adopts at any other time (except during special events/holidays). 50th and 100th adopts will be milestone adopts instead.
    • Common adopts (adoptables with only Common expressed Genes) may have up to 1 Rare recessive Gene and 3 Uncommon recessive Genes.
    • Uncommon adopts (adoptables with at least one Uncommon expressed Gene) may have up to 4 Uncommon expressed Genes, 2 Rare recessive Genes and 5 Uncommon recessive Genes.
    • Rare adopts (adoptables with 1 Rare expressed Gene) may have up to 5 Uncommon expressed Genes, 3 Rare recessive Genes and unlimited Uncommon recessive Genes.
    • Must get permission from Wolphee to make line edits other than those allowed by specific Genes.
    • May award up to 3 RUs per adopt. The adopt must have at least 5 forms before 1 RU can be awarded, 10 forms before 2 RUs can be awarded, and 20 forms before 3 RUs can be awarded. All forms must be FINISHED to count.
    • May award 1 Honorable Mention for every 5 FINISHED forms entered for an adopt.
    • May have up to five contests running at a time.
    • Must judge contests within a month of ending them. If a competition has not been judged after a month, another staff member will step in to judge instead.
    • FCFS adopts are NOT ALLOWED. Contests must be open for at least 24 hours before you can close them.
    • May accept breeding tickets and custom orders. You must maintain your own off Oekaki thread for opening breeding and custom slots. See the Hatchery and Custom threads for further rules.
    • Must not accept outside payment of any sort for creating adopts, litters, or customs. If found to have accepted outside payment for any of these things, you will be immediately removed as an artist and barred from being staff for the species.
    • *May create 1 Standard Custom for themselves upon completing any combination of 5 of the following tasks: design and judge an adopt, complete a breeding ticket, complete a custom order. This reward only applies ONCE.

    PT Artists
Part Time Artists have more limits on the Hekunds they can create than FT Artists of the species, but they are allowed to create as many as they want. The PT Artist position is mostly used for artists who would like to create the occasional Hekund but do not have the time to devote to being a FT Artist for the species, or for people who only want to accept breeding tickets and/or custom orders rather than creating adoptables.
    • Must be able to create adopts on the oekaki. PSD lines will not be provided.
    • Cannot create milestone adopts or Rare adopts.
    • May only create up to 5 adopts a month.
    • May only create 1 Uncommon Adopt a month, all others must be Common.
    • Cannot make any line edits unless allowed by specific Genes.
    • May only award up to 1 RU per adopt.
    • May only award up to 2 Honorable Mentions per adopt.
    • May only have up to two contests running at a time.
    • Must judge contests within a month of ending them. If a competition has not been judged after a month, another staff member will step in to judge instead.

    GAs
Guest Artists are temporary artists who have a limit to how many adopts they can create. The Guest Artist position is mostly used as a sort of tryout period to see if interested persons would make good FT/PT Artists for the species, but also to periodically inject some new ideas and designs.
    • Must be able to create adopts on the oekaki. PSD lines will not be provided.
    • Cannot create milestone adopts.
    • Cannot make event adopts.
    • May create up to 5 adoptable Hekunds.
    • May only create adopts with Common expressed AND recessive Genes.
    • Cannot make any line edits unless allowed by specific Genes.
    • If a Guest Artist chooses to award an RU, it counts as one of the 5 Hekunds they are allowed to make. Guest Artists may only award up to 2 RUs during their term as a Guest Artist.
    • May only award up to 1 Honorable Mention per adopt.
    • May only have one contest running at a time.
    • Must judge contests within a month of ending them. If a competition has not been judged after a month, another staff member will step in to judge instead.
    • Cannot accept breeding tickets or custom orders.
    • May create 1 Semi Custom for themselves upon completing and judging the competitions for at least 3 of their designs.
    • May be offered a position as a FT/PT Artist if their designs are at a satisfactory standard and they complete them and judge competitions in a timely manner.

    Archivists
Archivists are individuals who are very organizationally minded whose sole job is to maintain the species’ records. Here at Hekunds, our Archivists also have some moderating duties. If you have a passion for organization, lists, efficiency, and making everyone else’s lives a whole lot easier, this may be the job for you!
    • Must be able to use google docs, as this is where our archives are kept.
    • Must keep up the Hekund Archives, entering each new Hekund as they are made and updating their entries as they are won and named.
    • Must keep up the Member Archives, to keep track of which Hekunds everyone owns and which Packs belong to who, and which Hekunds are in each Pack.
    • Must moderate the Shop & Bank thread, completing purchases and updating the Member Archive to keep everyone’s inventories, Moni stashes, and HMs up to date.
    • Must also moderate the Shop & Bank thread for approving leveling tasks and updating the Member Archive whenever someone levels up.
    • May create or have an artist create a Standard Custom for themselves after turning in 5 completed staff tasks in the Shop & Bank thread.

    Mods
Moderators are a bit of a catch-all position for people who want to help out the species in a way that doesn’t fall into any of the above categories. This could include maintaining our Fanclub, Deviantart Group, Tumblr, Twitter, or any other myriad sort of duties, as well as the basics of keeping an eye on our threads for any questions that might need to be answered. It is a Mod’s job to be decently knowledgeable about the specifics of the species and our rules so that you can help out anyone who is having trouble.
    • May take on Archivist tasks (moderating the Shop & Bank thread and updating the Member Archives accordingly).
    • Must 'patrol' all species related threads/sites and answer questions as they appear, as well as notifying Wolphee of any rule breaking/disputes.
    • May create or have an artist create a Semi Custom for themselves upon hiring.

    GMs
Global Moderators are ranked just underneath the Owner and can and SHOULD perform all of the above tasks as needed. People in this position will be staff members that have been active with Hekunds for at least 6 months in one of the above positions and have expressed interest in helping out in more than one area. They should be extremely knowledgeable about the species and our rules.
    • Must follow the FT Artist rules for creating adopts.
    • Must step in to help the other staff with the completion of their tasks where needed.
    • May step in to judge overdue contests.
    • May run/coordinate events.
    • May create 1 Standard Custom for themselves (or have an artist make it) upon promotion. This is in addition to whatever custom their former position awarded them.

*Artists switching from FT to PT or vice versa do not get a second free Standard Custom.

    Warnings, Strikes, & Bans
      None, yay!

Genetics

Postby Zeneka » Mon Sep 23, 2019 2:48 pm

Other than its coloration and markings, a Hekund’s physical appearance is strictly determined by its genetics. Each Hekund will have a genotype, detailing the genes it expresses as well as those it carries and can pass on to its offspring, containing each of the genes below. Occasionally, a Special Hekund will be released with a new gene or allele, at which point it will be added here for future reference (which will predictably be considered of the Special Rarity). If any new genes are added, all Hekunds released before it are assumed to have two copies of the allele which prevents expression of the gene.

An example genotype is as follows: CC|NN|TdTa|DaDa|RlRd|AdAs|FvFn|ElEv|HdHf|Uus|EE|Bbr|WW
What does this mean? This Hekund would have short fur (C as the first allele in the Fur Gene slot) that has a natural colored base (N as the first allele in the Fur Color Gene slot), a demon tail (Td as the first allele in the Tail Gene slot) with an arrow tip (Da as the only allele in the Demon Tail Gene slot), long ears (El as the first allele in the Ear Gene slot), and demon horns (Hd as the first allele in the Horn Gene slot). All second alleles are considered recessive, meaning the Hekund can pass those traits on to their offspring, but the Hekund themselves does not show those genes on their body. As for the Reptile Tail, Aquatic Tail, and Furred Tail Genes, these only express (show up on the Hekund's body) if that tail type appears in the first spot on the Tail Gene slot, but the Demon Tail allele is there, so only the Demon Tail Gene is expressed.

Rarity Guide:
Green = Common
Yellow = Uncommon
Red = Rare
Blue = Special
Key:
[D] = Dominant
[R] = Recessive
[C] = Co-dominant

    Fur Gene

    {C} - Short Fur
      [D] c
    {c} - Long Fur
      [R] C
If Long Fur is expressed, it blocks the expression of the Aquatic Tail, expressing instead the recessive tail allele (if present) or the appropriate Demon Tail as expressed on the Demon Tail Gene.

    Fur Color Gene

    {N} - Natural Colored Fur
The base fur color of the Hekund can only be some form of white, gray, black, brown, tan, cream, golden, or ginger. Markings can still be any color.
      [D] n
    {n} - Unnatural Colored Fur
The base fur color of the Hekund can be any color.
      [R] N

    Tail Gene

    {Td} - Demon Tail
      [D] Tr, Ta, Tf, Tm
    {Tr} - Reptile Tail
      [D] Ta, Tf, Tm
      [R] Td
    {Ta} - Aquatic Tail
      Mutates *Aquatic Ears.
      [D] Tf, Tm
      [R] Td, Tr
    {Tf} - Furred Tail
      [D] Tm
      [R] Td, Tr, Ta
    {Tm} - Mouthed Tail
This type of tail varies greatly, but the tail will always have some sort of mouth located on it. The tail may also have eyes, a nose, and/or ears of its own. The tail mouth is not connected to a stomach but it can 'swallow' things for storage purposes (which can be expelled later) or bite for defensive/offensive purposes.
      [R] Td, Tr, Ta, Tf

    Demon Tail Gene

    {Da} - Arrow
      [C] Df
    {Df} - Fork
      [C] Da
If Da and Df are both present, the demon tail expresses the Diamond tip instead.

    Reptile Tail Gene

    {Rl} - Lizard Tail
      [D] Rd, Rs
    {Rd} - Dragon Tail
      [D] Rs
      [R] Rl
    {Rs} - Snake Tail
      [R] Rl, Rd

    Aquatic Tail Gene

    {Ad} - Dolphin Tail
      [D] As
    {As} - Shark Tail
      [R] Ad

    Furred Tail Gene

    {Fv} - Fox Tail
      [D] Ff, Fs
      [C] Fn, Fk
    {Ff} - Fluffy Tail
      [D] Fs, Fk
      [R] Fv
      [C] Fn
    {Fs} - Silky Tail
      [D] Fk
      [R] Fv, Ff
      [C] Fn
    {Fn} - No Tail
When paired with this allele, all co-dominant alleles become shorter/smaller, but if it appears with two copies of Fn or with one copy of Fk, the Hekund will have no tail at all.
      [D] Fk
      [C] Fv, Ff, Fs
    {Fk} - Kitsune Tail
If Fv and Fk are present, the Hekund will have two fox tails. If two copies of Fk are present, the Hekund will have three small fox tails.
      [R] Ff, Fs, Fn
      [C] Fv

    Ear Gene

    {Et} - Tall Ears
      [D] El, Ev, Ef, Es
    {El} - Long Ears
      [D] Ev, Ef, Es
      [R] Et
    {Ev} - Fox Ears
      [D] Ef, Es
      [R] Et, El
    {Ef} - Fluffy Ears
      [D] Es
      [R] Et, El, Ev
    {Es} - Silky Ears
      [R]Et, El, Ev, Ef
*Aquatic Ears express over any other ear type when an Aquatic Tail is expressed. They do not have their own allele and cannot express without an Aquatic Tail being expressed.

    Horn Gene

    {Hd} - Demon Horns
[D] Hg, Hf, Hr, Hc, Ha, h
    {Hg} - Goat Horns
[D] Hf, Hr, Hc, Ha, h
      [R] Hd
    {Hf} - Forked Horns
      [D] Hr, Hc, Ha, h
      [R] Hd, Hg
    {Hr} - Ram Horns
      [D] Hc, Ha, h
      [R] Hd, Hg, Hf
    {Hc} - Horn Crown
      [D] Ha, h
      [R] Hd, Hg, Hf, Hr
    {Ha} - Antlers
      [D] h
[R] Hd, Hg, Hf, Hr, Hc
    {h} - No Horns
[R] Hd, Hg, Hf, Hc, Ha

    Forehead Gene

    {U} - Not Present
[D] us, uf, uu, ug, ue, uh
    {us} - Small Horn

If two copies are present, the Hekund will have scales on its legs and muzzle.
      [D] un, ug, ue, uh
      [R] U, us
    {un} - Unihorn
If two copies are present, the Hekund will have glowing markings.
      [D] ug, ue, uh
      [R] U, us, uf
    {ug} - Gem
If two copies are present, more gems may be present anywhere on the Hekund’s body.
      [D] ue, uh
      [R] U, us, uf, un
    {ue} - Fifth Eye
If two copies are present, up to eight more eyes may be present anywhere on the Hekund’s body.
      [D] uh
[R] U, us, uf, un, ug
    {uh} - Halo
If two copies are present, in addition to the above the head halo, up to six more halos may be present anywhere on the Hekund’s body. Halos may glow or have elemental effects/be made of elements.
      [R] U
[C] us, uf, un, ug, ue
