The first horse I ever trained was an Arabian named Medina. She was 31 years old and just needed to be reminded of what to do and given a little exercise. Her “mom” never had enough time for her, so it was up to me-a lesson student with an ounce of empathy-to get her back in working order. I will never forget sitting in the movie theater and my mom pulling me out to tell me Medina was dying. I spent her last moments with her, but was taken away when the owner came to be present when she was put down. I love you, Medina. I hope you’re still prancing around up there.
