Is there such thing as pinging?

So, recently got back into CS, and remembered it was the 18th. I reminded my sister, and it was relatively easy. However, sometimes when I find a forum post that I want to share, I can never find it again. Coming from FR, I'm relatively used to pinging people, does it exist over here? How does it work?
