"Spooky. Sure." you say, gazing at the ornament in front of you. Amir frowns and looks at you. "The correct word is spoopy, first of all." he grumbles. "Second of all, you see the hat? It looks like the one from that kids show - and the little kids shows are getting increasingly creepier and more alarming." You decide not to bother telling him he sort of looks like the cat in the hat. But he does have a point on the creepy part.... "And third of all, don't you hear them?"
You pause, listening. "Nada, man."
Amir taps the ornament and for a moment you hear voices, distant pained screams, and the raspy, low, yet melodic voice that seemed familiar....from your dreams somewhere.....
Amir grins, suddenly looking a lot more sinister. "That's him. The Devil himself." You flinch back. That was disturbing by all means, but how could there be an ornament connected to Satin?
"I don't - just - I - " you say something you know you'll regret. "Prove it."
Amir taps on the ornament 3 times with a red claw. Again the faint melodic voice - the voice of the Devil. Too faint for you to make out. But Amir grins, his incredibly sharp teeth shining from the light of his tree. He answered in a foreign language and it was as if darkness expanded from the ornament, swallowing you and Amir - it was horror it would never be bright again where was the culprit - then it was all over.
You were standing in a surprisingly festive location. Far above your head, a ceiling of wet rock gleamed, Christmas lights hung from glimmering crystal to crystal. The dead and evergreen trees that dotted the area all had bright lights and animal skulls hung as ornaments on them. A bright castle made of clean stone loomed in front of you, wreaths hanging below every window.
Your jaw is hanging open now and Amir closes it, not gently mind you, and beckons you towards the brilliant, curving, black gates at the entrance to the castle. Two guards seemingly made of polished red metal opened them for you and you follow Amir into the welled trimmed court yard.
More decorative trees reside here, along with dark green grass and briars trimmed in the shape of animals. Boa skulls, candlelight dancing from the depths of the eye sockets, line the seashell and gravel entrance path, and you keep well to the middle of the path. Amir reaches the door before you, apparently fine with the fact that the Devils residence wasn't...well what you would think it looked like.
The door opened after Amir rapped it three, sharp times. Another boa seemingly made out of metal, this one shimmering green copper, closed the doors swiftly behind you.
The Entrance Hall of the Devil's Palace is quite large, and chandeliers bewitched to change between white and festive colors every few seconds cast cheerful glows on the weapons mounted on the wall. And - a Christmas tree. On it was an ornament almost identical to Amir's except it was much larger, floating above the ground seemingly unsupported yet looking like it was on the tree - with the hat on the left side (if you are facing it).
You shiver, but you have fallen behind Amir and the boa has come back for you, your forearm grabbed by his paw. He moved so fast you barely had a moment to appreciate the palace before he entered a grand throne room.
Animals of all kinds greet you with their unique call and the largest and longest Feather Boa you have ever seen awaits you. Heavy, tan-red horns curve out of his head and when he smiles - his perfect white teeth end in points. His long, sweeping tail is adorned with long spikes the same color as his horns, and a sword seems to have been attached to hos tail. His long claws retract into his paws and his blood red fur shimmers in the candlelight. Oddest of all, he wears no fewer than 5 necklaces of plants around his neck. A vegan devil. Odd.
"The spare, Amir." he says carelessly. You blink. "Oh no."
A flash of red then everything is black.
