ABOUT EDOLONS
Edolons (ed-ô-lon), are short furred forest creatures with a similar facial and body feature of feline. During the spring and summer, they have short fur, however during autumn and winter, their fur grows longer to keep them warm. They are around the same size as an adult cat, ranging from 16- 18 inches long (without their tails) and on average 16 inches tall . They have short, sharp claws in order to catch small pretty in addition to self protection. They have large fluffy long ears, in which they are able to excel in hearing. These creatures are omnivorous. They mainly eat berries and insects, however they also do eat small forest animals such as mice and moles. Edolons are a shy, quiet species, that are non aggressive unless provoked or attacked. They do not interact with humans usually, as Edolons normally live in leaf nests or in abandoned burrows. In addition they make soft jingling sounds as their primary vocalization.
The most distinct feature of the species are their “ribbons”. The “ribbons”(1- 1.5 feet long, sometimes longer) normally have tufts of fur at the tips and are always in a free floating motion. Edolons use their ribbons to express themselves, whether if they’re happy, sad, angry, etc. Edolons have a beautiful long tails that usually have two beads at the base of their tails or near the tip of their tails. Their tail is made of of hair, which is light enough to allow Edolons to move gracefully and almost as if they were floating.
Breeding
An Edolon will breed with one other Edolon, however an Edolon’s partner does not have to be the same from the last pairing. The species will only have 1-3 litters and there is up to 4 offsprings per litter. Baby Edolons have shorter ribbons, tails, and ears than the standard Edolon and are very adventurous and playful.
Background Story/Myth
Known as forest spirits or guides. While they are not spirits, some believe they were spirits due to the fact that one would rarely see these creatures. Edolons have been around for many centuries and have always kept to themselves. They excel in staying hidden as they are very light on their paws when they move which prevents them from making any sounds that may signal their presence.
Edolons are rarely seen by humans, but in the past lost merchants and explorers have stumbled upon these creatures who often led the travelers safely out of the forest. Because they are rarely seen, and often only appear to those in need, they’re featured in many myths and stories.
For some time, Edolons have lived peacefully, hidden in the forests. Not many people remember or believe that these creatures exist due to their scarcity, appearance, and fantastical history.
