Okay so I see a lot of realistic horse adopts roaming around CS but not much in the way of fantasy or cartoonish ones. I am kickin' around some ideas and would love to hear suggestions or critique (for both the concept and the art lol).
Concepts:
- Two builds, hill and dale (draft and light).
- Live in a human-free fantasy valley with other magical animals (griffins, fauns, sphinxes, etc).
- Natural colors and patterns of horses and other animals, as well as unnatural colors and patterns (sparklepones!!)
- No genes, sorry!
- Trying to figure out if magic/powers should be traited or not.
- Rarity traits include physical mutations like horns, wings, tails, etc.
Non-rarity: Build, eye color, body color and patterns. facial expressions.
Common: Mane and tail styling(??), beard, feathering.
Uncommon: Horns of all types, cloven hooves, ear mutations (curled, long, lop, etc).
Rare: Wings (feathered wings+tail come in a set), non-horse tails (dragon, tufted), fangs or tusks, any glowing.
Mythic: Sleipnir, mane and tail made of odd materials (plants, tentacles, fire), hippocampus.
- They decorate themselves with flowers, jewelry, fabrics and leather, so either they have craftsmen of their own (magic manipulation!) or trade with other inhabitants of the valley. What do they trade? Who are they friendly with (or not so friendly)?
- Maybe have some kinds of weapons and armor... If it's a horse I think it would be more like weaponized armor lol.
- Do they live in herds? Family groups? Or something more like a town? Individual expression seems important to them.
- Bonded pairs are more of a thing than the harem setup of traditional horse herds. Any sex/gender can reproduce together because they are magic horses, come on now. Maybe 1-2 foals?
- An element system of six elements (water, earth, fire, air, light and dark) where each element has its own spirit/deity and represents itself literally as well as abstract/cultural ideas (shadow: birth and death; water: resilience and change, etc.) Horses may pay respects or pray to certain elements/gods, all of them, or none of them at their choosing. Maybe different elements/gods have different aesthetics (metal jewelry for fire and forging, flowers for earth) and those that subscribe to certain elements rock certain looks, deck out shrines certain ways, stuff like that!
- Light: Gossamer fabrics; white, gold, and cream. Truth, seeking out details.
Dark: Silk; black, silver, and red. Birth and death, healing.
Water: Shells and round pebbles; blues, greens, grays and shell-pinks. Resilience and/through change, eternity.
Earth: Plants and flowers, minerals, leather; greens, browns, and bright flower-colors. Age, steadfastness, food and harvest.
Fire: Forged precious metals, jewelry, satin; red and gold and black. Destruction and cleansing, reforming, fertility (ashes),
Air: Lace, feathers and wild grasses; white, gray, pastels. Travel and freedom.
