Ancient Irish War Ponies were once a breed of a horse that roam freely on the rocky terrains near the Cliffs of Moher, Ireland. Much like the wild American Mustang , this breed of horse was originally domesticated and then escaped into the wild. Though not proven many believe that the Ancient Irish War Ponies are decedents of crossbreeding Connemara Ponies with other draft like breeds. The history of the Ancient Irish War Pony seems to be a little unclear, but there are signs of a similar breed being used during the 13th century as farming horses and traveling. They are hardy build with a strong back and legs. They are horses built for stamina not speed. Visually what really sets them apart from the Connemara Pony is the long feathering that they have on their fetlock. They stand from about 12 hh- 14hh and come in any shade of color natural to horses.
