Dawjin are large wild beasts that inhabit the snowy wastelands of after earth. While not the largest predator of the wastes, they are certainly among of the top 3 contenders. These massive fluffy beasts are seemingly a meld of many different beasts - They are about seven feet in height, with the body, and behaviorisms of a wolf, but with the large front paws of a bear, mane and tail of a striped hyena, and a bite that can easily shatter bones. These creatures are opportunistic hunters, while living on a diet of mostly meats they will not hunt for 75% of their meals, but instead opting to bully other predators off of their kill. At times they will accept berries and insects as treats, but will always go for meat. Their bodies are well equip to handle their harsh home; their fur is well insulated to handle the cold, and their curved claws are perfect for gripping both ice, and the thicker hides of their prey. The remaining humans have begun to tame these ferocious beasts of the icy wastes, though very difficult they have managed to breed an easier to handle; more domestic breed of Daws. These Daws are smaller, but faster than their feral cousin, and are used as the primary mode of transportation across the wastes. For the most part these creatures live solitary lives, in rare instances same sexed groups can be found traveling together; these are called bands and will never exceed four members. These creatures eat communally; they gather together and will establish dominance within the community of local Daws at meals with battles over who gets the best/most nutritious parts of the carcass. Weaklings will not eat. In captivity such fights are much tamer - much like in a wolf pack. Daws cannot speak any known languages, but communicate to one another and their humans with a series of huffs, snorts, growls/snarls, bellows, and barks, as well as body gestures such as stomping, and shoving. Their tail and ears are extremely important in establishing dominance between one another, as how they are held is indicative of their societal rank. Daws are typically 9 feet long from tip of their nose to tail tip; their tails are normally the same length as their bodies. Comparatively in size Adolescent Daws are about the size of a lion and pups at birth are about the size of an Aussie Shepherd.
