Kennel/Home Description
The sanctuary, which also doubles as Ollie and sometimes Zak's home, is on a large plot of farmland near the marshy coast of Kitts Hummock. Surrounded by various wildlife reserves such as the Little Creek Wildlife Area, Ted Harvey Conservation Area, and of course the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve, Sanghund Sanctuary is a very protected property with long stretches of open land and an abundance of wildlife to enjoy. The main fence is eight feet tall, with thick redwood on the lower half buried four feet into the earth, and chain link for the top half. This fence encircles about ten acres of flat grassland, with a shallow pond in the back and an array of weeping willow trees along the property border. In the back section of the property is an enclosed barn-like building that houses eighty individual indoor kennels, which is where all the rescue dogs are housed. The whole building is heated and air conditioned, and sized perfectly to comfortably accommodate each dog. Plexiglass and wood are used instead of metal bars or cement, which helps create a calm and quiet setting for all the dogs. Back in the front part of the property, a path of smooth natural stepping stones leads from the main gate to the small grey walled house to the left, posed with a dark stone ramp and thick wrought iron railings. The home is a very simple rectangular shape, and sports only three rooms. The dutch style front door has an antique feel to it, the two wooden panels worn from years of abuse. Inside, the living area is the first apparent room, with a small kitchen to the right. A large corner couch, a coffee table, a small flat screen TV, an old style piano, and polished wooden floors make up the simplistic yet comfortable style that shows itself through the entire home. The kitchen is just as mundane as the living area, with grey marble counter tops and pale cupboards, a large steel fridge, large dishwasher, basin sink, and tons of metal pegs on the wall to hang drying dog bowls. A tiny microwave on the very edge of the back table is the only item that establishes a human may be able to cook there as well, and beside it, a washer and dryer full of dog blankets and beds. Farther back along the single hallway shows a large room to the left, with an open arch doorway. A lineup of bowls sets along the solid interior wall, and the rest of the room is lit with sunlight from the bay windows, and filled to the brim with toys. For furniture it is outfitted with various styles of comfy dog beds, four wooden dog houses, and a running wheel. There's even a small grooming station set with stepping stairs up to a shallow tub and an overhead dryer. In the last room, to the right, is the only bedroom. Its small in comparison to the rest of the house, and has space for a captains bed with fitted desk and laptop, a dresser, a very small bathroom, and a small alter. Its superbly personalized with posters and art decorating every inch of the walls, slightly unkempt but still clean and organized, and trails of cluttered shelving on every wall. Crystals, skulls, taxidermy, instruments, portraits, sculptures, antiques, photos, books, you name it - its there. On the round table alter, a black pentacle is carved into the wood, and a small silver bowl sets in the center. A row of candles lines the back, and a singular canine skull sets to the left. Small bouts of herbs and gems are set in an organized chaos of order around the pentacle, each with its own purpose and place. In the silver bowl, under a tiny iron dagger, sits a small worn book - the LaVeyan bible. That is the pinnacle of the home for its resident human, however the more often used section of the bedroom is the desk - likely the only 'dirty' section of the house. Though the computer is filled with most necessary information and databases for the rescue, an array of paperwork and files still clutters the black wooden surface. Organization is not even feasible in the small space, and as such the area is simply just more organized chaos.

The Sanghund sanctuary started up in the summer of 2014, shortly after Ollie left the original rescue group that he worked for. While stationed at that previous shelter, Ollie met Zak, a lazy rich kid full of dreams but with little ambition. They grew close over the years despite their varying personalities, and eventually Ollie proposed an idea that Zak was more than happy to back - to open a pitbull rescue in their home town. The agreement was simple. As long as Ollie put in the work, Zak would fund it every step of the way. And so they did. Within six months the duo transformed Ollie's small home into a huge ten acre property fit with beautiful kennels that could comfortably house eighty dogs at any given time. They both left their positions at the shelter, and Ollie was further able to focus on his career as a dog trainer as the rescue was first beginning to expand. They spent the next two years working comfortably, gaining public attention as well as volunteers (of which Ollie's neighbor Kathy was one), and getting their name out there - not only as a much needed non-profit rescue, but also as the home of one of the most renowned dog trainers on the east coast. Ollie's simple work quickly turned into a full fledged business, in which he not only trained unruly dogs, but also sculpted hundreds of ordinary rescued pitbulls into lovable working companions - therapy dogs for hospitals, seeing eye dogs for the blind, service dogs for the disabled, anything that the animals could and wanted to do - Ollie taught them how. Not only did it provide a great service to the people, but for each dog Ollie trained, it provided that animal with a guaranteed forever home. From there Sanghund only grew in popularity, and it wasn't long before it became a widely known sanctuary across all mediums.
