A Gikapi is a relative of the Giraffe; their name is a combination of the words "Giraffe" and "Okapi".
These 15-foot tall ungulates originate in the plains of Africa, where their friendly nature and loyal
family structure has made them a friend of humans for generations.

✦ Respect one another; there is ZERO tolerance for discrimination or bias
✦ Don't use skeleton forms without permission & citation

[Ownership & OCs]

✦ You may own up to 6 Gikapies
✦ Gikapies may be any sexuality or existing gender
✦ Do not change your Gikapi's anatomy
✦ You may give your Gikapi items so long as it does not mimic anatomy (e.g. cyborg limbs)
✦ No public nsfw, controversially offensive or otherwise non-childfriendly material concerning a Gikapi
✦ Do not convert Gikapi designs to another species/oc, unless it is a custom that you made or still within the Gikapi community (e.g. giving your Gikapi a human version, that's fine)

[Exchange]

✦ You may trade a Gikapi for another Gikapi
✦ You may trade, gift, or disown 1 Gikapi once every 30 days, unless you are quitting/disowning multiple at once
✦ You can only sell a Gikapi for equal or less than what you bought it for
✦ You have to own a Gikapi for at least 30 days before disowning it unless you bought it for someone; you cannot enter contests or raffles on someone else's behalf

[Creation & MYOs]

✦ Gikapies are a closed species; you may not create one unless you are an artist, staff, or have a MYO ticket
✦ You may own up to 3 customs
✦ Atm there is no way for non-staff to acquire MYO tickets

[Breeding & Mates]

There is no Nursery atm, but when there is:
✦ Only a DFAB + DMAB pair may breed, regardless of their genders (this may change but I'd like to keep the species realistic as so far they kinda are? However non-DFAB/DMAB pairs will be able to 'adopt orphans' similarly to how breeding is done)
✦ Usually there will be just 1 baby but in rare cases there can be 2
✦ A Gikapi must be owned for 30 days before it can be bred
✦ A Gikapi can only breed once every IRL month
✦ Artists can NOT discriminate batches by the sexualities and/or genders of the parents

[Artists]

✦ The main thread was made using Chickenpaint so please use that to avoid corrupting the layers
✦ Zero tolerance for bias or discrimination in the judging of competitions
✦ Put the number in the title of every adopt; once adopted, put the name, gender, & link to owner at the top of the main post
✦ 1 of 3 may be Uncommon, 1 of 6 may be Rare, 1 of 10 may be Very Rare; ask about edits you are unsure of
✦ Do not create Legendaries without my permission
✦ No more than 3 RUs in any 1 competition; RUs have to be confined by a related theme & can't be customs
✦ Maximum of 2 more adoptions per artist per week; do not create a new adopt if you have 3 waiting to be judged or any unfinished RUs that are more than a month old
✦ Competitions that haven't been judged in 2 months will be confiscated/judged by someone else

✦ Only 1 of 3 Gikapies per artist may be sold for any type of currency. They may be hosted on DA

✦ Perks become enacted only after 30 days of being an active staff member
✦ Staff may own 10 Gikapies and 5 customs
✦ An Artist may create a custom after creating an open adopt of equal rarity/line edits (because Legendary adopts are reserved for occasions, an Artist can create a very well-edited Very Rare to make a Legendary custom)
✦ An Archivist gets 1 common custom a month; if they do not use it, it will upgrade to Uncommon the next month, then Rare, Very Rare, and Legendary
✦ Moderators will get 1 common custom a month unless they haven't used the ticket from the previous month

[Basics]
Gikapies are a relative of giraffes, but are more closely related to their ancestors. They are shorter
than giraffes--being only 15 feet tall--with a shorter neck, larger tail, curled horns, and a thicker mane.

[Distribution]
Gikapies originate in the plains of Africa; however, European interference released them in the wild of
European plains. Some can live in wildlife parks in America or other locations.

[Relationship with Humans]
With stronger bodies, higher intelligence and more loyal family structure than giraffes, Gikapies have
been an important ally to humans since our oldest days; many native peoples often regarded them as
gifted creatures, and their surprising adaptability has made them excellent pack animals. Their loyal
family structure results in a friendly nature, making them great for mounts and curious kids.

[Lifestyle]
Unlike giraffes, Gikapies live in small herds of an average of 8 members, often built on close social or
family bonds that stay together and protect one another. They are normally nomadic, but often return
to the same places every year. They do this to follow the rain cycle.
They are normally friendly creatures, but if they do fight, they will do so by locking horns and using their
front legs to attempt to knock the competitor to the ground.

[Diet]
They normally forage from trees like giraffes, but due to being shorter they may also feed on bushes.
In human care, they'll eat hay or leaves.

[Family Life]
Gikapies are normally monogamous, but may be polyamorous up to 2 spouses. They are very loyal to
their mate(s) and offspring, and staying together with friends and family creates their small herds.
Offspring may remain in in their family's small herd for their whole life, or may leave to join another herd.
Much larger communities are possible, consisting of various small social groups sharing a large home range.

[Sounds]
Gikapies may communicate with huffs, snorts, and bellows like Giraffes. They will hum when content.

Note: A Gikapi does not have to have ALL of the listed traits to be the indicated rarity.
The listed traits simply indicate the rarity.
Gikapis are normally natural-colored, but this is not regulated.

[Common]

No edits to the lineart, except for items. Spots are a prominent part of the design at least somewhere on their body.
[Uncommon]

Slight mane/tail tuft edits; slight horn edits; realistic hoof edits (e.g. bigger split); tufts of fur anywhere else on the body/mane extended down tail; may not have any spots; custom mammal ears
[Rare]

A Gikapi can also be considered Rare if it has 3 Uncommon edits.
A fully custom mane; fully custom horns; custom mammal tail; different pupil shape; heterochromia
[Very Rare]

A Gikapi can also be considered Very Rare if it has 3 Rare traits (or 2 Rare traits and 3 Uncommon traits).
Glowing markings; large-scale asymmetric markings (one side looks entirely different from the other); multiple tails
[Legendary]

Completely unrealistic edits, such as a goop tail, multiple eyes, extra limbs, etc
